Leaving a Personal Legacy
As a charitable organization evolves, it often faces new
challenges in meeting growing funding demands. For
the Evans Scholars Program, one such challenge is that college
tuition costs are increasing at approximately 2-3 times
the rate of revenue growth.
Planned Gifts help non-profit organizations prepare for
future funding challenges by providing avenues for donors
to give in perpetuity through specific estate gifts and other
charitable vehicles. Planned gifts made today to the Roland
F. McGuigan Endowment Fund will help guarantee future
funding for tomorrow’s Evans Scholars.
The simplest form of planned giving is a bequest providing
the Evans Scholars Foundation with a specific dollar
amount from, or percentage of, an estate at a donor’s
death. Making a bequest to the Foundation also is an
effective way to leave a personal legacy or to honor a
loved one.
In planning for the next generation
of Evans Scholars, the Foundation
is committed to expanding
its emphasis on donor contributions
through planned giving to the
Endowment Fund.
A Guide to Planned Giving
There are many ways for you, your family, friends and the community – as well as the Evans Scholars Foundation –
to benefit with a planned gift to the Foundation. Here is a brief overview:
A Bequest in a Will or Living Trust – Many Alumni, Directors, and Par Club Members bequeath a specific dollar
amount or percentage of their estates to ESF in their wills.
Life Insurance Policies – ESF can be named the owner and beneficiary of a policy that is no longer needed for family
security or may be designated as beneficiary owned by the individual. If ownership is transferred to the Foundation, there
is an income tax deduction at the time of the gift.
Charitable Gift Annuities – By entering into a charitable gift annuity with the ESF, an individual may receive both an
immediate income tax deduction and income for life at favorable market rates.
Income Producing Trusts – Family members can receive income for life from a trust, with the trust assets going to ESF
at the trust’s conclusion. Or the trust can provide income to ESF for a specified period of time, with the assets returning
to the family on a highly tax-favorable basis.
Retirement Plans – Retirement plans may constitute a significant portion of an individual’s estate and can lead to
substantial estate and income taxes payable at that individual’s death. One way to preserve those valuable assets is to
designate ESF as beneficiary of the retirement plans. Using these assets for the individual’s charitable interests can leave
other assets, that are not as heavily taxed, to the family. Any individuals interested should consult a financial planner for
ways in which they can use their retirement plan to significantly reduce federal estate and income taxes, while giving to
the Foundation.
Listed above are just a few of the ways in which you and your family may benefit with a planned gift to the Evans Scholars
Foundation. Please consult your financial planner to find out which giving vehicle best fits the giving needs of you and
your family. Please be sure the Evans Scholars Foundation is informed of your and your family’s intentions so that the
gift is properly acknowledged.
To properly recognize those who have included the Evans
Scholars in their estate planning, the Foundation is presently
creating a Legacy Society. Names of all program supporters
who have made planned gift provisions will be
published in future Endowment giving lists
as members of the Legacy Society.
By providing recognition now for future
gifts, the Foundation will be expressing its
appreciation and thanks to the many donors
whose advance planning serves to
help ensure the future financial viability
of our organization.
If you would like to be included
in the inaugural Planned Giving
Society listing next year, please let
us know. All planned gifts will be
recognized unless made anonymously.
Thank you in advance for
your consideration in helping prepare
the Evans Scholars Foundation for
generations to come. Please contact the
