Polypropylene multifilament spinning
technology for multi-coloured carpet yarns
bcf tricolour yarns are used mainly in carpets as pile yarn,
for upholstery and furnishings.
SML’s auStrofiL bcf tricolour lines offer advantages
that include:
• two pre-intermingling positions, which allow a wide
range of colour separation (from well-blended to clear).
• high flexibility derived from the simultaneous
production of two differing yarn titer.
• the ease of operation provided by just one
texturising and cooling point for each yarn.
• a patented SML texturising unit for top crimp
contraction and low shrinkage.
• ingenious texturising jet, that works without lamellas.
• thorough cooling of the texturised, compact plug
for around 15 seconds.
• the avoidance of impurities through structural
separation from the spinning section, stretching,
texturising and winding.
• electronics protected inside by an air-conditioned
e-container.
a standard auStrofiL bcf tricolour line consists of three
extrusion units with optional dosing systems. the spinning
beam is heated with thermal oil in a pressureless system.
the spinning pumps for each module can be started
individually and lines are equipped with two quenching
units, each with separate controls. after quenching, spin
finish is applied to the filaments.
two pre-intermingling positions (one for a sprinkle effect
and the second for a melange effect) permit different
colour separation. this configuration is used by the
carpet industry to create unique yarns according to its
own requirements and to meet new fashion trends.
the stretching and texturising unit stretches the yarn at a
standard ratio for bcf of 1:2.5. different colours can be
separated all the way up to the inlet of the texturising unit,
where the yarns are opened and then compressed into a
plug with a rectangular profile. this plug is subsequently
wound around the cooling drum in multiple turns, drawn
off, intermingled and winded up to bobbins.
a wide titer range can be produced without changes to
any of the components of the patented texturising unit,
while the ingenious design of the crimper means that steel
or ceramic lamellas are avoided. in addition, outstanding
levels of cooling efficiency after texturising results in
maximum bulk and minimum shrinkage.
this line configuration permits the simultaneous
production of two yarns with differing specifications like
titer and number of filaments. between the two yarns it
is possible to run separate adjustments in spinning,
quenching, spin finish application and processing speeds.
the size of the extruders and the modern control unit
facilitate rapid colour and product changes. Moreover,
the lines are ideally suited to the production of small lots.
