in automation technology. The experience gained by our customers<br />

and the visions <strong>for</strong> new applications and usages guided the development<br />

of <strong>WinMOD</strong> 5.<br />

<strong>WinMOD</strong> 5 brings significant developments in systematics of simulation<br />

during the engineering as well as during the usage of simulation<br />

Experience fromApplication<br />

Strongly shortening commissioning<br />

times by assured software quality<br />

played the dominant role <strong>for</strong> the application<br />

of <strong>WinMOD</strong>. The required software<br />

tests take place with a real-time<br />

simulation of the real installation and a<br />

real-time coupling with the real control<br />

system hardware or a compatible soft-<br />

PLC.<br />

testing, where a large spatial distance<br />

Rationality, Functionality, Transparency<br />

and Controllability<br />

The <strong>WinMOD</strong> simulation elements are<br />

the fundament <strong>for</strong> the excellent realtime<br />

per<strong>for</strong>mance of the simulation of<br />

component behavior as it is typical <strong>for</strong><br />

<strong>WinMOD</strong>.<br />

With little ef<strong>for</strong>ts the elements are configured<br />

to <strong>for</strong>m devices, modules or<br />

process models. These are used repetitively<br />

in further simulation projects.<br />

This proceeding is the key <strong>for</strong> efficient<br />

work, <strong>for</strong> clearness of results<br />

and <strong>for</strong> control of complexity and size.<br />

In <strong>WinMOD</strong> 5, state and flow machines<br />

were developed that are easy<br />

to handle and to configure. They are<br />

used <strong>for</strong> the simulation of intelligent devices<br />

like frequency converters and<br />

robots.<br />

<strong>Simulation</strong> elements support the requirements<br />

of transport simulation <strong>for</strong><br />

piece goods handling and <strong>for</strong> bulk material.<br />

With configurable table elements characteristic<br />

curves, signal progressions<br />

and material sequences are defined,<br />

possibly based on recordings from<br />

real installations.<br />

Further elements facilitate the simulation<br />

of operator panels of components<br />

and enable descriptive visualization.<br />

In order to use <strong>WinMOD</strong> Projects without<br />

special qualification, and in order<br />

to facilitate using <strong>WinMOD</strong> as a<br />

means to specify the behavior of devices,<br />

machines and installations,<br />

new innovative functions were introduced.<br />

These include tool tips, directly<br />

following cross references, textual<br />

and visual animations and further improvements.<br />

The functions are integrated<br />

into the respective user interface<br />

areas.<br />

ExpandedApplication area<br />

<strong>WinMOD</strong> 5 is well proven in practical<br />

application. The concepts and their implementation<br />

met a very good response<br />

at the users. Many companies<br />

also use the systematic introduction of<br />

<strong>WinMOD</strong> by project consulting and<br />

support by the Application Engineering<br />

of Mewes & Partner.<br />

Numerous reference projects are<br />

available with optimized workflows <strong>for</strong><br />

Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and<br />

validation of process install-ations, <strong>for</strong><br />

the virtual machine with 3Dvisualization,<br />

<strong>for</strong> virtual commissioning<br />

of manufacturing cells <strong>for</strong> automotive<br />

body-in-white, <strong>for</strong> the test of traffic<br />

facilities in waterway construction, <strong>for</strong><br />

<strong>WinMOD</strong> 5 is a quasi-standard<br />

in its class.<br />

How to proceed ?<br />

The <strong>WinMOD</strong> System will permanently<br />

adapted to real changes within<br />

the automation industry, e.g. automation<br />

systems. High benefits <strong>for</strong> the<br />

user and the development of further<br />

application areas <strong>for</strong> <strong>WinMOD</strong> simulation<br />

projects are substantial goals. In<br />

addition to new possibilities <strong>for</strong> simulation,<br />

the systematic application of<br />

<strong>WinMOD</strong> is important, in especially<br />

the questions:<br />

• What is to be tested?<br />

• How will it be tested ?<br />

• Where will evaluation and<br />

documentation take place?<br />

•When<br />

will testing take place already<br />

during planning ?<br />

These and further questions will be<br />

tackled, together with our users.<br />
