As in sports, much of the attention in military-combat assets
is focused on the offense, meaning systems that attack. But it’s
often the defense that wins the game.
For aircraft carrying special operations teams, the defensive
option remains increasingly sophisticated countermeasure sys-
tems—flares, decoys and other tactics—that ensure the aircraft
will be protected against a missile attack.
