Inspiring the
next generation
The University’s first ever Inspirational Teaching
Awards took place in December with a special
celebration event to mark their success.
Thousands of students
responded to a call last
summer to nominate the staff
they felt had the most positive impact
on their learning and experience at
the University.
More than 2,600 nominations for
1,000 members of staff were received.
A shortlist of 32 was chosen to receive
the inaugural awards, made up of
22 tutors, seven research project
supervisors and one non-teaching
staff member.
Opening the awards, Vice-Chancellor
Professor Philip Jones said: “I am very
proud to be involved in celebrating
with the winners this evening. All
of them have been identified for
their personal qualities and their
passion and commitment in their
work, whether that is in a teaching,
supervising or advising capacity.
“We do well to remember the
expertise, enthusiasm and devotion
shown by our staff towards the
students who are at the heart of the
University.
“The people gathered here this
evening epitomise what our
university is all about. Each of them
has inspired, motivated and engaged
students and they should be as proud
of themselves as we are of them.”
