What makes one's life successful?

Most philosophies of the well-lived life are based on having
something. But the Christian perspective is that it is better to be
something. The goal of the Christian life is to grow in loving
relationship to Christ, becoming more like Him through the
immersion of our entire selves in His Church, the Body of Christ.
But our transformation in Christ will not occur until we
recognize Him as our ultimate concern.
In CONVERSION, explore the stories of six ordinary biblical
figures with Father Barron, using their examples to grow ever
closer to Christ.
The CONVERSION DVD and accompanying Study Guide can
help you understand the power of an encounter with Christ and
help you recognize when Christ is calling you personally.
Father Robert Barron is an acclaimed author, theologian and
podcasting priest from Chicago, and one of the world's great and
most innovative teachers of the Catholic faith. He is the founder
of Word on Fire Catholic Ministries.
ST. PETER AND PAUL SOUP KITCHEN
We served 142 guests at St. Peter and Paul on Thursday, January
3. The meal took 18 cooks to prepare, 12 to provide side items
and 15 to serve. All left satisfied and well cared for. Special
thanks to Kim Cordia and Mary Carol Schilli who were our sub
cooks this month. Thanks also to the four 8 th grade Confirmation
candidates and their chaperones Bill Doyle and Lisa Lard who
helped serve the hungry guests. Our ministry served a total of
1271 meals to the hungry in Soulard in 2012.
Please save any new or gently used blankets for the homeless and
drop them off at 311 Weston Oaks Court around the first of the
month. We will take them with us when we go to serve on the
third.

WINTER IS A BRUTAL TIME FOR THE HOMELESS
MEN AND WOMEN LIVING IN OUR COMMUNITY
For the next 2 weeks, you can provide warmth and comfort to those
in need by donating new hats, gloves and scarves for men, women
and children. Donations will be delivered to the St. Peter and Paul
Shelter.

ST. VINCENT DE PAUL YOUTH CONFERENCES
TWENTY AND THIRTY SOMETHINGS...Volunteer in the
New Year. The Society of St. Vincent De Paul offers a variety of
opportunities for young adults including:
Home visitations of the needy through 140 area chapters to
provide food, rent, clothing, utility and job referral
assistance.
Four young adults chapters in Soulard, South Grand,
Midtown and Manchester.
A young adult food pantry program.
Four area thrift stores in South City, Ballwin, St. Charles and
Dellwood.
Legislative liaison and pen pal programs for inmates.

ROOM AT THE INN
St. Peter hosted 8 homeless guests on December 21, 2012.
Thanks to the following parish volunteers who so generously
donated their time and talent: women' ACTS team for February
retreat, the Morgan family, the Muldoon family, Jack Collins,
Georgia Colombo, Brian Fitzgerald and Judy Jackson. A special
shout-out to some St. Peter 6th graders for helping with the
mattresses: Maddy Allgeyer, Timmy Heinlein, Harry Loida, Sam
Guillmette, Abigail James and Sophia Council.
The Room at the Inn program is a great opportunity to practice
stewardship by sharing some our time and blessings with those
who are not as fortunate. Volunteers are always needed. If
you've signed up in the past but have not been contacted, or if you
would like to know more about the program call Joan at
821-2935.
Our next opportunity to volunteer is January 18, 2013 and
every 3rd Friday thereafter.
