International Stamps
Transition guidelines for using International Stamps
The introduction of GST-free International stamp has required changes in Australia Post's General
Postal Services Terms and Conditions. Although Australia Post's policy is that domestic stamps are
to be used on domestic mail, and international stamps are to be used on all international mail, a
transition period has been introduced to make this change easier for all concerned.
Transition period (until 31 January 2001)
Customers will be offered and encouraged to
use International stamps for international
postage. However both domestic and
international stamps will be accepted for
payment within either mail stream, as long as
the total postage value affixed to an item covers
the postage required.
Post's exchange policy will allow customers
to exchange stamps across services (domestic
for international and vice versa) up to an
amount of A$45.00.

The kit gives children a fun introduction to stamps and provides a basic framework for developing
an interest in the hobby of stamp collecting.
The new Starter Kit, is priced at $14.95. It is available from postal outlets and by mail order from
the Australian Philatelic Bureau.

• 5 stock sheets
• a sheet of stickers
• one magnifying glass
• a packet of 50 used stamps
• a Stamp Explorer membership form, and

From 1 February 2001
International stamps must be used for the
payment of international postage services.
Exchanges must be for like product
(domestic for domestic, international for
