defend your view, <strong>and</strong> use him to criticize those <strong>of</strong> your intellectual<br />

opponent.<br />

But in this case, try as I may, I find it difficult to discern in Tullock6<br />

any reference to his original point (private roads could cut<br />

the country in half), or, indeed, any answer at all to our response<br />

to this charge.<br />

Nevertheless, I am enough <strong>of</strong> a traditionalist to want to<br />

respond to what purports to be a critique <strong>of</strong> an article <strong>of</strong> mine,<br />

even though, in this case, this is only a very rough approximation<br />

<strong>of</strong> the truth. As it happens, there is some correspondence<br />

between Tullock7 <strong>and</strong> my own work on highway privatization;<br />

however, this refers not to Block <strong>and</strong> Block, 8 Tullock’s presumed<br />

target, but rather to Block. 9<br />

With this introduction, I press on to a consideration <strong>of</strong> Tullock.<br />

HOMESTEADING<br />

Tullock correctly identifies the source <strong>of</strong> my own inspiration<br />

for private property with the Lockean-oriented homesteading<br />
