EVERT JONES<br />

DEFENSIVE LINE<br />

Evert Jones, a former All-Conference<br />

tackle for the Utes, leads the defensive<br />

line. Jones won his All Conference titles in<br />

1956 and 1957, and received his B.S. degree<br />

from the Universtiy in 1958.<br />

Following graduation, Evert spent one<br />

year as a graduate freshman assistant coach<br />

under Ray Nagel. In 1959 he accepted an<br />

assistant coaching position at Jordan High<br />

School in Sandy, Utah; and remained in that<br />

capacity until 1961 when he was appointed<br />

to the head job for the Beetdiggers, a<br />

position he held for four seasons. While<br />

heading up the Jordan High program, he<br />

hired Tom Lovat, now the head coach, as<br />

his assistant. Lovat later took the helm for<br />

Hillcrest High School in Salt Lake City.<br />

Tom's team met Jordan High School only one<br />

time and won 6-0.<br />

In 1964 Jones accepted the head coaching<br />

position at Cabrillo High School in<br />

Lompoc, California where he remained for<br />

STEVE DANGERFIELD<br />

QUARTERBACKS-RECEIVERS<br />

Steve Dangerfield leads Utah's quarterbacks<br />

and receivers this season. Dangerfield<br />

bring to the Utes a long list <strong>of</strong> high school<br />

coaching credits.<br />

A native <strong>of</strong> Salt Lake City, the 34 year-old<br />

Dangerfield is a graduate <strong>of</strong> Olympus High<br />

School where he gained recognition as an All<br />

State <strong>football</strong> player and was the state<br />

wrestling champion in the 177-pound division.<br />

Heattended Brigham Young University<br />

and was a three year letterman at linebacker<br />

and center. He was team captain for the<br />

Cougars in 1961 and 1962 and was named to<br />

the Academic All America Team in 1960<br />

and 1961.<br />

Steve attended Officer's Candidate School<br />

and was named the outstanding graduate <strong>of</strong><br />

his class in 1967, the same year he received<br />

a masters degree from the University <strong>of</strong> Utah.<br />

His coaching experience includes a one<br />

year stint as an assistant at Salt Lake City's<br />

West High School; two years as head coach<br />

nine years, 1965-73. During his 13 years<br />

as a head coach, he compiled an outstanding<br />

87-28-5 record, including four championship<br />

teams and six second place finishes. He has<br />

never coached a team that finished less than<br />

third in its respective division. His<br />

conference record at Cabrillo High School<br />

was 48-12-4, and in 1968 he was selected as<br />

one <strong>of</strong> the head coaches for the Santa<br />

Barbara County All Star Game.<br />

A native <strong>of</strong> Thermopolis, Wyoming, Jones<br />

is married to the former Pamela Reese <strong>of</strong><br />

Salt Lake City. They are parents <strong>of</strong> three<br />

children, Mike (12), Danny (9), and Sara (7).-<br />

at Bingham High School; and five years as<br />

head <strong>football</strong> coach at Viewmont High<br />

School in Bountiful. His record at Viewmont<br />

was impressive to say the least, 42 wins<br />

against 15 losses. That mark includes a<br />

15-game win streak in league competition.<br />

In 1970, Dangerfield's Vikings were Division<br />

Co-Champions. In 1971, Viewmont<br />

won the State's Class IVA Championship;<br />

and the following two seasons were champions<br />

<strong>of</strong> Region II and State Semi-Finalists.<br />

Steveand his wife Alice have one daughter,<br />

Stephanie (10).
