VINCEZIMMER<br />

ENDS, LINEBACKERS<br />

Vince Zimmer, ends and linebackers<br />

coach, has spent his coaching and playing<br />

career in the West.<br />

Zimmer came to Utah following a one<br />

year stint as assistant head coach and defensive<br />

coordinator at the University <strong>of</strong><br />

Nevada at Las Vegas. While at the Las Vegas<br />

school, the Rebels posted one <strong>of</strong> their<br />

finest seasons in recent years with a 8-3 mark.<br />

The 36-year-old defensive specialist is a<br />

1964 graduate <strong>of</strong> the University <strong>of</strong> Wyoming<br />

where in 1961 he gained recognition as an<br />

All Conference player at center.<br />

Following graduation, Zimmer remained<br />

at Wyoming as an assistant <strong>football</strong> coach<br />

for one year while working on his masters<br />

degree which he received in 1968. Zimmer<br />

spent four years at Lusk and Powell High<br />

Schools in Wyoming as head <strong>football</strong> coach<br />

and recorded an outstanding 31-5-1 mark.<br />

His teams at Powell High School won two<br />

state championships.<br />

In 1969, Zimmer joined the staff at<br />

Northern Colorado, and promptly established<br />

the school as a defensive powerhouse by<br />

TED GILL<br />

OFFENSIVE LINE<br />

Ted Gill, a former defensive tackle for<br />

Tom Lovat at Idaho State University, adds his<br />

<strong>football</strong> knowledge to the <strong>of</strong>fensive line. He<br />

is also in charge <strong>of</strong> the Utah scouting<br />

program.<br />

The 26-year-old assistant was second<br />

team all conference in the Big Sky following<br />

a two year player stint at Sequoia Junior<br />

<strong>College</strong> in California.<br />

A native <strong>of</strong> Washington D.C., Gill received<br />

his B.S. degree from Idaho State in 1971.<br />

While working on his degree Gill served the<br />

Bengal <strong>football</strong> program as a graduate assistant<br />

coach working with the defensive tackles<br />

and ends.<br />

During 1972, he was elevated to full time<br />

assistant coach at Idaho State where, in<br />

addition to working with the varsity defensive<br />

line, he was also in charge <strong>of</strong> the junior<br />

varsity program. During his two years at<br />

allowing opponents only 44.3 yards rushing<br />

per game, second best season average among<br />

all the nation's colleges that year.<br />

In 1971, Northern Colorado led the<br />

country in defensive statistics by allowing<br />

opponents only 27.5 rushing per game.<br />

During his last year at Northern Colorado in<br />

1972, his team finished eleventh nationally<br />

in defense against scoring, allowing opponents<br />

only 9.3 points per contest.<br />

He is a noted speaker and very active in<br />

the Fellowship <strong>of</strong> Christian Athletes organization.<br />

He and his wife Peggy have three daughters<br />

ages 9, 7, and 6.<br />

the helm <strong>of</strong> the Idaho State freshmen and<br />

junior varsity programs, his teams lost only<br />

one game.<br />

During his playing days at Idaho State<br />

Gill was noted as a smart player. During a<br />

1969 game with the University <strong>of</strong> Idaho he<br />

batted down five passes at the line <strong>of</strong> scrimmage<br />

and as a senior Gill played 534 <strong>of</strong> 540<br />

possible minutes.
