STEVEN LAMB<br />

Offensive Tackle, Concord, California, Junior, Ht: 6-0, Wt: 225 Born:<br />

7-13-54, Mt. Diablo High School<br />

AT UTAH: Steve was moved from defensive tackle to <strong>of</strong>fensive tackle<br />

this spring. Coaches feel he will be pushing everyone for a starting<br />

spot this fall. He has used his defensive aggressiveness to clear the line<br />

<strong>of</strong> scrimmage on <strong>of</strong>fense. Steve has the size <strong>of</strong> a tackle and the speed <strong>of</strong><br />

a pulling guard. These two qualities together make Steve a valuable<br />

part <strong>of</strong> the <strong>of</strong>fensive line.<br />

HIGH SCHOOL: Was named player <strong>of</strong> the year in <strong>football</strong>. Was also<br />

named to all-league and all-state teams. Was a three year varsity<br />

letterman. Team won league championship in 1973.<br />

PERSONAL: Majoring in sociology, aspires to be involved in law<br />

enforcement. Person he respects the most is his father, who is a<br />

policeman. Nicknamed Chops. Favorite pro athlete is Joe Namath.<br />

LYLE LAVARIAS<br />

Free Safety, Waialua, Hawaii, Senior 2VL.Ht: 6-2, Wt: 175, Born:<br />

3-25-53, Waialua High Schdol.<br />

AT UTAH: Lyle has been a two-year starter in the Ute defensive<br />

backfield. Lavarias finished last season with 39 assisted and 40 unassisted<br />

tackles for a season total 79. That made him second in tackles only<br />

to John Huddleston. He also had one interception, three fumble recoveries<br />

and knocked down three passes in 1974. Lyle, as a senior, will<br />

be counted on to provide defensive leadership. He came to Utah as a<br />

quarterback which helps him in reading <strong>of</strong>fenses.<br />

HIGH SCHOOL: Earned ten varsity letters - <strong>football</strong> (4), basketball<br />

(4) and track (2). He was captain <strong>of</strong> basketball and <strong>football</strong> teams.<br />

All-league performer in both. Member <strong>of</strong> the National Honor Society.<br />

PERSONAL: Married to former Gwen Sato. Father was a <strong>football</strong><br />

player in high school, now is a policeman. Majoring in health science,<br />

aspires to be a teacher.<br />

DAVID LODEN<br />

Linebacker, Waukesha, Wisconsin, Sophomore, Ht: 6-0, Wt: 225, Born:<br />

11-28-55, Waukesha High School.<br />

AT UTAH: Dave stepped in this spring to take over a starting position<br />

at linebacker. He has shown that he hits like a linebacker but covers<br />

passes like a defensive back. Dave always seems to find the <strong>football</strong><br />

and then make the hit._ He'can play middle linebacker or has the speed<br />

to play outside as well.<br />

HIGH SCHOOL: Was all-state, all-league and all-county while earning<br />

three varsity <strong>football</strong> letters. Team won the surburban championship in<br />

1971 and 1972.<br />

PERSONAL: business major at the U. His father is a city worker who<br />

participated in the four major high school sports.<br />

JOHN W. MclNTYRE<br />

Flanker, Walnut,California, Senior TVL,Ht: 6-1, Wt: 185, Born: 3-3-54<br />

Walnut High School.<br />

AT UTAH: John will be a big part <strong>of</strong> the Power I <strong>of</strong>fense this fall. He<br />

will get a chance to run with the <strong>football</strong> along with catching passes.<br />

Last year he had nine receptions for 103 yards. This season John is<br />

looking to handle the ball more because <strong>of</strong> the Ute's addition <strong>of</strong> an<br />

improved passing attack. John makes a good target for the quarterback<br />

and can pull down passes that other receivers would not be able to touch.<br />

HIGH SCHOOL: Outstanding athlete and student receiving many<br />

honors through-out his career. Earned ten letters <strong>football</strong> (3), basketball<br />

(2), track (3), and baseball (2). Scored three touchdowns in league<br />

championship game, which they won in 1971. Was Walnut's athlete <strong>of</strong><br />

the year. Track MVP, Hall <strong>of</strong> Fame, All-CIF. Along with athletic awards<br />

was named to the Outstanding Teenager <strong>of</strong> America, was ASB Treasurer,<br />

Secretary <strong>of</strong> Athletics, Key Club Vice President. Went to junior<br />

college, Mt. San Antonio <strong>College</strong> was named All-South Conference along<br />

with being the MVP. Also played at the US Air Force Academy.<br />

PERSONAL: Favorite pro athletes include OJ Simpson, and Muhammad<br />

Ali. Is majoring in business finance. His father attended Missouri U<br />

where he participated in track, <strong>football</strong> and basketball.<br />
