STEVEN LAMB
Offensive Tackle, Concord, California, Junior, Ht: 6-0, Wt: 225 Born:
7-13-54, Mt. Diablo High School
AT UTAH: Steve was moved from defensive tackle to offensive tackle
this spring. Coaches feel he will be pushing everyone for a starting
spot this fall. He has used his defensive aggressiveness to clear the line
of scrimmage on offense. Steve has the size of a tackle and the speed of
a pulling guard. These two qualities together make Steve a valuable
part of the offensive line.
HIGH SCHOOL: Was named player of the year in football. Was also
named to all-league and all-state teams. Was a three year varsity
letterman. Team won league championship in 1973.
PERSONAL: Majoring in sociology, aspires to be involved in law
enforcement. Person he respects the most is his father, who is a
policeman. Nicknamed Chops. Favorite pro athlete is Joe Namath.
LYLE LAVARIAS
Free Safety, Waialua, Hawaii, Senior 2VL.Ht: 6-2, Wt: 175, Born:
3-25-53, Waialua High Schdol.
AT UTAH: Lyle has been a two-year starter in the Ute defensive
backfield. Lavarias finished last season with 39 assisted and 40 unassisted
tackles for a season total 79. That made him second in tackles only
to John Huddleston. He also had one interception, three fumble recoveries
and knocked down three passes in 1974. Lyle, as a senior, will
be counted on to provide defensive leadership. He came to Utah as a
quarterback which helps him in reading offenses.
HIGH SCHOOL: Earned ten varsity letters - football (4), basketball
(4) and track (2). He was captain of basketball and football teams.
All-league performer in both. Member of the National Honor Society.
PERSONAL: Married to former Gwen Sato. Father was a football
player in high school, now is a policeman. Majoring in health science,
aspires to be a teacher.
DAVID LODEN
Linebacker, Waukesha, Wisconsin, Sophomore, Ht: 6-0, Wt: 225, Born:
11-28-55, Waukesha High School.
AT UTAH: Dave stepped in this spring to take over a starting position
at linebacker. He has shown that he hits like a linebacker but covers
passes like a defensive back. Dave always seems to find the football
and then make the hit._ He'can play middle linebacker or has the speed
to play outside as well.
HIGH SCHOOL: Was all-state, all-league and all-county while earning
three varsity football letters. Team won the surburban championship in
1971 and 1972.
PERSONAL: business major at the U. His father is a city worker who
participated in the four major high school sports.
JOHN W. MclNTYRE
Flanker, Walnut,California, Senior TVL,Ht: 6-1, Wt: 185, Born: 3-3-54
Walnut High School.
AT UTAH: John will be a big part of the Power I offense this fall. He
will get a chance to run with the football along with catching passes.
Last year he had nine receptions for 103 yards. This season John is
looking to handle the ball more because of the Ute's addition of an
improved passing attack. John makes a good target for the quarterback
and can pull down passes that other receivers would not be able to touch.
HIGH SCHOOL: Outstanding athlete and student receiving many
honors through-out his career. Earned ten letters football (3), basketball
(2), track (3), and baseball (2). Scored three touchdowns in league
championship game, which they won in 1971. Was Walnut's athlete of
the year. Track MVP, Hall of Fame, All-CIF. Along with athletic awards
was named to the Outstanding Teenager of America, was ASB Treasurer,
Secretary of Athletics, Key Club Vice President. Went to junior
college, Mt. San Antonio College was named All-South Conference along
with being the MVP. Also played at the US Air Force Academy.
PERSONAL: Favorite pro athletes include OJ Simpson, and Muhammad
Ali. Is majoring in business finance. His father attended Missouri U
where he participated in track, football and basketball.
