DAN GERBATZ
Defensive End, Reno, Nevada, Sophomore, Ht: 6-1, Wt: 215, Born:
5-1-56, Reno High School.
AT UTAH: Dan played fullback on the J.V. team, and at the beginning
of spring football, his hard hitting style of blocking led coaches to
believe he could play defense. Dan was moved to starting defensive end
which gives Utah some needed depth there. He is considered by
coaches as one of the finest athletes of last year's freshmen. Dan's
stay on offense has helped him in reading defenses and fighting off
blockers at his defensive end spot. His good speed enables him to be a
good outside pass rusher and contain man.
HIGH SCHOOL: Earned three letters each in football and baseball.
Named all-state, all-conference and all-star along with being most valuable
player. Were the state champions.
PERSONAL: Aspires to be an electrical contractor like his father.
Favorite pro athlete is Larry Csonka. Father played football in
high school, is his son's most respected person. Undecided major.
GRANT GERTSCH
Strong Safety, Pocatello, Idaho, Senior 2VL, Ht: 6-2, Wt: 185, Born:
11-12-52, Highland High School.
AT UTAH: Grant had a fine spring which earned him a starting job this
fall. He finished fifth on the team in tackles with 23 unassisted and 29
assisted. Grant picked off one pass last year but looks to improve on
that this season. He has good size for a defensive back which he uses
to hit people. Grant will be counted on as a senior to be a leader on the
defensive unit.
HIGH SCHOOL: Earned seven letters in high school - football (2),
track (3), basketball (2). All-state and AII-SIC in football and track.
Played on state championship basketball team in 1971, conference
champs in 1969, 1970 and 1971. Took state championship in 1971 for
the medley relay. Made the honor roll and was elected to Boy's State.
PERSONAL: Favorite pro athlete is Dick Anderson. Person he respects
the most is his mother. Major is history.
DICK GRAHAM
Wide Receiver, Cambridge, Mass., Junior, Ht: 6-0, Wt: 175, Born:
10-24-53, Ecole D'Humante (Switzerland)
AT UTAH: During spring drills Dick showed coaches his excellent
hands and pass catching abilities. Not a speedster, he can get open on
his pass routes. Graham had seven receptions for 65 yards last season.
Dick will be counted on to lend experience to the split end position.
Dick has the poise which makes him the man to look for to make the
big play.
HIGH SCHOOL: Attended school in Switzerland. Was theVice president
of Kamerademat.
PERSONAL: Favorite pro athlete is Jimmy Connors. Person he
respects the most is Arja Randi. Is majoring in psychology. Father is a
college president.
RANDY GRIFFIN
Flanker, Salt Lake City, Utah, Junior 1VL, Ht: 5-10, Wt: 175, Born:
12-22-55, Olympus High School.
AT UTAH: Randy came out last spring to get a starting job, but had
his spring drills cut short with an injury to his knee. Randy had one
reception for 12 yards last season and ran back six kickoffs for a 14
yard average. Coaches feel Randy is the kind of player who makes the
most of his ability. He is now only lacking the playing time that comes
with varsity action.
HIGH SCHOOL: Received letters in track and football. All-region
quarterback in football and captain of the track team.
PERSONAL: Father is a professor who played football, basketball and
track at New Mexico State. Muhammad AM is his favorite pro athlete.
Majoring in business.
