DAN GERBATZ<br />

Defensive End, Reno, Nevada, Sophomore, Ht: 6-1, Wt: 215, Born:<br />

5-1-56, Reno High School.<br />

AT UTAH: Dan played fullback on the J.V. team, and at the beginning<br />

<strong>of</strong> spring <strong>football</strong>, his hard hitting style <strong>of</strong> blocking led coaches to<br />

believe he could play defense. Dan was moved to starting defensive end<br />

which gives Utah some needed depth there. He is considered by<br />

coaches as one <strong>of</strong> the finest athletes <strong>of</strong> last year's freshmen. Dan's<br />

stay on <strong>of</strong>fense has helped him in reading defenses and fighting <strong>of</strong>f<br />

blockers at his defensive end spot. His good speed enables him to be a<br />

good outside pass rusher and contain man.<br />

HIGH SCHOOL: Earned three letters each in <strong>football</strong> and baseball.<br />

Named all-state, all-conference and all-star along with being most valuable<br />

player. Were the state champions.<br />

PERSONAL: Aspires to be an electrical contractor like his father.<br />

Favorite pro athlete is Larry Csonka. Father played <strong>football</strong> in<br />

high school, is his son's most respected person. Undecided major.<br />

GRANT GERTSCH<br />

Strong Safety, Pocatello, Idaho, Senior 2VL, Ht: 6-2, Wt: 185, Born:<br />

11-12-52, Highland High School.<br />

AT UTAH: Grant had a fine spring which earned him a starting job this<br />

fall. He finished fifth on the team in tackles with 23 unassisted and 29<br />

assisted. Grant picked <strong>of</strong>f one pass last year but looks to improve on<br />

that this season. He has good size for a defensive back which he uses<br />

to hit people. Grant will be counted on as a senior to be a leader on the<br />

defensive unit.<br />

HIGH SCHOOL: Earned seven letters in high school - <strong>football</strong> (2),<br />

track (3), basketball (2). All-state and AII-SIC in <strong>football</strong> and track.<br />

Played on state championship basketball team in 1971, conference<br />

champs in 1969, 1970 and 1971. Took state championship in 1971 for<br />

the medley relay. Made the honor roll and was elected to Boy's State.<br />

PERSONAL: Favorite pro athlete is Dick Anderson. Person he respects<br />

the most is his mother. Major is history.<br />

DICK GRAHAM<br />

Wide Receiver, Cambridge, Mass., Junior, Ht: 6-0, Wt: 175, Born:<br />

10-24-53, Ecole D'Humante (Switzerland)<br />

AT UTAH: During spring drills Dick showed coaches his excellent<br />

hands and pass catching abilities. Not a speedster, he can get open on<br />

his pass routes. Graham had seven receptions for 65 yards last season.<br />

Dick will be counted on to lend experience to the split end position.<br />

Dick has the poise which makes him the man to look for to make the<br />

big play.<br />

HIGH SCHOOL: Attended school in Switzerland. Was theVice president<br />

<strong>of</strong> Kamerademat.<br />

PERSONAL: Favorite pro athlete is Jimmy Connors. Person he<br />

respects the most is Arja Randi. Is majoring in psychology. Father is a<br />

college president.<br />

RANDY GRIFFIN<br />

Flanker, Salt Lake City, Utah, Junior 1VL, Ht: 5-10, Wt: 175, Born:<br />

12-22-55, Olympus High School.<br />

AT UTAH: Randy came out last spring to get a starting job, but had<br />

his spring drills cut short with an injury to his knee. Randy had one<br />

reception for 12 yards last season and ran back six kick<strong>of</strong>fs for a 14<br />

yard average. Coaches feel Randy is the kind <strong>of</strong> player who makes the<br />

most <strong>of</strong> his ability. He is now only lacking the playing time that comes<br />

with varsity action.<br />

HIGH SCHOOL: Received letters in track and <strong>football</strong>. All-region<br />

quarterback in <strong>football</strong> and captain <strong>of</strong> the track team.<br />

PERSONAL: Father is a pr<strong>of</strong>essor who played <strong>football</strong>, basketball and<br />

track at New Mexico State. Muhammad AM is his favorite pro athlete.<br />

Majoring in business.<br />
