JOHN BURNETT
OFFENSIVE BACKS
John Burnett, a former graduate assistant
at the University of Utah (1970-72) and for
the past three years an assistant football
coach at Shippensburg State College in
Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, is the newest
member of the Ute coaching staff.
He joined Tom Lovat's staff in July to
replace Bill Dickey who took a head coaching
job at San Mateo Junior College in
California. Burnett will be in charge of the
offensive backs.
The 28-year-old Burnet is a native of
Hayu/vard, California and played high school
football at Mt. Eden High under Lovat. He
attended the University of California at
Santa Barbara where he played football for
former Ute head coach Jack Curtice from
1965-69. After graduating from UC Santa
Barbara in 1970 with a B.A. degree in
WAYNE MCQUIVEY
HEAD JUNIOR VARSITY COACH
Wayne McQuivey, 28, a member of the
Utah football staff for the past two seasons
will serve as Head Junior Varsity Coach this
season.
A native of Magna, Utah, McQuivey
graduated from Cyprus High School in 1965
where he lettered in football, basketball,
baseball and golf. He attended Utah State
University for two years where he earned
two letters as a member of the Aggie Golf
Team.
McQuivey holds a B.S. degree from Utah
and will be working on his Master's Degree
in physical education.
History, Burnett was a member of the staff
there and then attended graduate school at
the University of Utah where he received a
Masters degree in Physical Education in
1972.
For the past three years, he has coached
the defensive backs at Shippensburg State.
Burnett is married to the former Barbara
Jo Mann.
McQuivey and his wife Camille, are the
parents of three children.
Steve Hallsey, a native of American Fork
and a former Ute gridder will serve as the
defensive coordinator for the Junior Varsity
team this fall.
