13 Classroom For areas used for teaching/seminars which are not<br />

lecture theatres.<br />

14 Common circulation areas For all common circulation areas such as corridors and<br />

stairways outside the dwelling.<br />

15 Computer lab High density desk based work space with<br />

correspondingly dense IT.<br />

16 Data Centre For data centres such as a web hosting facilities, with<br />

24hr high internal gains from equipment and transient<br />

occupancy.<br />

17 Diagnostic Imaging For areas which contain diagnostic imaging equipment<br />

(such as MRI and CT scanners, Bone Mineral<br />

Densitometry, Angiography, Mammography, PET,<br />

General Imaging, Linear Accelerator, Ultrasound). This<br />

category should be used for any associated plant areas<br />

where people work.<br />

18 Display and Public areas All public circulation areas where people are<br />

walking/sitting and where display items are exhibited /<br />

available normally using display lighting.<br />

19 Display area An area where display lighting is used to illuminate<br />

items with glazing onto the outside such as a shop<br />

window, but which is boxed/enclosed, separated from<br />

the main retail space.<br />

20 Domestic Bathroom An area specifically used for bathing/washing. Contains<br />

a bath and/or shower and usually a basin and toilet.<br />

21 Domestic Bedroom An area primarily used for sleep.<br />

Not to be used in Scotland.<br />

22 Domestic Circulation For all circulation areas within the dwelling.<br />

Not to be used in Scotland.<br />

23 Domestic Dining room An area which is primarily used for eating meals.<br />

Not to be used in Scotland.<br />

24 Domestic Kitchen The area within the dwelling where food is prepared.<br />

Not to be used in Scotland.<br />

25 Domestic Lounge The main reception room of the home.<br />

Not to be used in Scotland.<br />

26 Domestic Toilet An area containing a toilet and basin which is separate<br />

from the main bathroom.<br />

Not to be used in Scotland.<br />

27 Dry sports hall An area where indoor sports can be played.<br />

28 Eating/drinking area Areas where food or drink are consumed by staff and<br />

visitors, e.g. canteen or office restaurant sitting areas.<br />

29 Fitness Studio An area used for exercising/dance, usually with high<br />

person density but with no machines.<br />

30 Fitness suite/gym An area used for exercise containing machines.<br />

31 Food preparation area Areas where food or drinks are prepared for staff and<br />

visitors, e.g. kitchen in canteen or office restaurant.<br />

32 Generic Check-in areas Areas designated for check in, which may contain<br />

conveyer belts; security check areas, which may<br />

include equipment such as x-ray machines; and<br />

baggage reclaim areas.<br />
