Offi cial opening ceremony in Turkey<br />

Turkey is of long-term importance<br />

for <strong>ANDRITZ</strong> <strong>HYDRO</strong>,<br />

and a variety of projects range<br />

from large to smaller hydropower<br />

plants. <strong>ANDRITZ</strong> <strong>HYDRO</strong> now also<br />

emphasizes its social responsibility<br />

in this country, especially in the<br />

South-East Anatolian region.<br />

<strong>In</strong> 2010 <strong>ANDRITZ</strong> <strong>HYDRO</strong> decided to<br />

plan and build an apprentice training<br />

center in Mardin, South-East Anatolia<br />

and operate it for several years. After a<br />

short construction period the center<br />

was inaugurated on 4 May <strong>2012</strong> and<br />

handed over to its destiny. 3 Turkish<br />

ministers, local mayors and governors<br />

attended the opening ceremony as well<br />

as the Austrian ambassador and the<br />

trade commissioner.<br />

Over the next three years more than<br />

100 young people from the region will<br />

be trained as skilled metal workers,<br />

electricians and certifi ed welders. This<br />

training is fully financed by <strong>ANDRITZ</strong><br />

<strong>HYDRO</strong>. After three years the training<br />

center will be handed over as a gift to<br />

the local Technical <strong>In</strong>stitute in Mardin.<br />

<strong>In</strong> close cooperation with the Technical<br />

<strong>In</strong>stitute, the training center's curriculum<br />

is based on one that corresponds<br />

to Austrian apprenticeship training. The<br />

students are trained in theory and<br />

practice and in the English language.<br />

This kind of curriculum, where both<br />

theoretical and practical training is offered,<br />

is a first in Turkey. It is expected<br />
