Students at the completion of grade 5 at JQES automatically move up to JQUS. What makes your school unique? We regard JQUS as a permanent work in progress. School-based curriculum teams are always searching for curricula and strategies in all subjects to improve the quality of the school’s instructional programs. Currently, teachers are immersed in infusing the IB Diploma Program in grades 11 and 12 and planning for the formal introduction of the IB Middle Program in grades 6-10. Teachers also assume significant leadership roles in school decision making. Students are assigned to advisory groups that meet regularly with teacher leaders. The school has a longer school day four days a week. Teachers participate weekly in meetings of grade teams and/or subject teams. We have a strong college counseling program. JQUS also offers extensive after school activities. Quincy Upper School is authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organization to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IBDP) to students in grades 11-12. We expect to receive approval in 2011- 2012 of a proposal we submitted to the International Baccalaureate for formal authorization to offer IB’s Middle Years Program (MYP) for grades 6-10. We are at this time already conducting this program informally based on our proposal to IBO.
