Orchard Gardens is a welcoming, vibrant, neighborhood centered school where students are striving to demonstrate high achievement and mastery in all academic content areas including the arts. We believe that children perform better academically and socially when their families and communities are involved in their education and their lives. Our nearly 800 students are taught to be independent thinkers and learners. Our modern school facility provides an environment that is clean, safe, and welcoming to children, families, and members of all communities. We have a large gymnasium, auditorium, dance studio, two art rooms, a music room and outdoor athletic practice fields. Electives include Dance, Art, Theatre and Music (woodwind, brass, percussion and string). Special opportunities for students: All students in 6 th , 7 th and 8 th grade students receive an additional four hours of instruction each day - Monday through Thursday – through our partnerships with Citizen Schools and City Year. Students also participate in expanded learning opportunities over the summer on Thompson Island. After-School/Extra Curricular Activities Activities include Baseball, Basketball (boys and girls), Cheerleading, Football, Volleyball, Soccer (boys and girls) and Track and Field (boys and girls). We have after-school partnership with Citizen Schools, City Year, Orchard Gardens Community Center and Vine Street Community Center. 68
