Extended Learning Time for all students until 4:15 p.m. that engages them in exciting and enriching activities<br />

as well as providing them with extra support in the development of math and literacy skills. Tenacity, City Year<br />

and Citizen <strong>Schools</strong> all offer programming to our 6 th graders as well as to our seventh and eighth graders.<br />

Enrichment Activities include: tackle football, soccer, basketball, track, softball, tennis, journalism, drama, linedancing,<br />

and art.<br />

AVID: Advancement Through Individual Determination: We have AVID elective classes for one hundred of our<br />

students who can benefit from an extra push that will launch them to success in college. The AVID students<br />

receive extra organizational and academic support. In addition, the school has adopted the AVID format for<br />

keeping a binder and for taking notes which helps support all of the students’ organizational skills an exciting<br />

arts program.<br />

A Major System in the Arts: Students take a variety of classes in the arts as sixth grade students and then<br />

choose to major in visual art, dance, and theater, as seventh and eighth grade students by taking a year-long<br />

course in their major and fulfilling certain benchmarks by the end of eighth grade.<br />

A Systematic Approach to Addressing Bullying: We teach the students in Advisory class how to report<br />

bullying to adults. We also train our staff to address bullying in an immediate and effective manner. We use<br />

the Olweus System, proven to be one of the most effective approaches throughout the world for dealing with<br />

bullying in a school.<br />

Alliance for Inclusion and Prevention (A.I.P.), in which students receive a wide array of counseling services<br />

that allow them to address their social and emotional needs and fully participate in the school.<br />

• Beautiful Auditorium, where students perform plays, concerts and talent shows.<br />

• Gymnasium, where students play interscholastic and intramural sports and have engaging physical<br />

education classes.<br />
