1. The twelve successively higher centres of energy (kramadviidasakam)<br />

are: I.janmiigra, 2. mula, 3. Kanda, S. niibhi,<br />

S. hrdaya. 6. KaIJtha, 7. tiilu, 8. bhrilmadhya, 9. laliita. 10.<br />

brahmarandhra, 11. sakti, 12. vyiipinl.<br />

These are known as dviidasasthiina or twelve stations.<br />

These are stages of the rising kUIJt}alini. They are correlatives<br />

of twelve vowels. The first four stages or stations or centres of<br />

energy are lower (a para) and concern bheda or difference.<br />

i. Janmiigra is at the level of the generative organ. Since<br />

the generative organ is concerned withjanma or birth of individuals,<br />

therefore the centre of energy at this level is known as<br />

janma, or janmiidhiira (basis of generation) or janmasthiina (the<br />

station which is involved in generation) or janmiigra (janmiigra<br />

means the point or head of the generative organ.)<br />

ii. Milia, generally known as muliidhiira or the root centre.<br />

This is in the spinal centre of region below the genitals.<br />

iii. Kanda, a bulbous or tuberous root, so called, because it is<br />

a tangle of many nerves. •<br />

iv. Niibhlor navel. The MaIJipura cakra is situated near it.<br />

After this, the following five are concerned with subtler energies<br />

known as bhediibheda or pariipara.<br />

v. Hrd or heart. .<br />

vi. KaIJlha-the cavity at the base of the throat.<br />

vii. Tiilu-palate<br />

viii. Bhrumadhya-centre between the eye-brows.<br />

ix. Laliita-Forehead.<br />

In the following three stages, the energy is of the form of para<br />

or abheda.<br />

x. Brahmarandhra-The apex of the cranium.<br />

xi. ,sakti-pure energy which is not a constituent of the<br />

body.<br />

xii. Vyiipinl-the energy which appears when KUIJt}alinr<br />

finishes its journey.
