VijRanabhairava<br />

1. AQima and other supernormal powers are the folIo Ning:<br />

(1) AQima-the power of becoming as small as an atom.<br />

(2) Laghima-the power of assuming excessive lightness.<br />

(3) Mahima-the power of increasing the size.<br />

(4) Prapti-the power of obtaining everything.<br />

(5) Prakamya-the power of fulfilling one's desire without<br />

any resistance; irresistible will.<br />

(6) Vatitva-the power of bringing all the elements and<br />

material objects into subjection.<br />

(1) Ititrtva-the power of producing and destroying the<br />

elements and mate.rial· objects.<br />

(8) .Yatrakamavasayitva-the power of fulfilling all<br />

resolves.<br />

2. Darling of the yoginls-one sense of this expression is<br />

that he becomes the master of the Saktis (powers) like jiiana<br />

(knowledge), kriyii (activity), iinanda (bliss). According to the<br />

Kaula traditiQn, there is another sense of the yoginls. A male<br />

practitioner of yoga was known as vira or siddha and a female<br />

one was known as yoginl. From this point of view, the sense of<br />

the above would be "He becomes the favourite of the yoginls."<br />

3. Melipakas - The word melapaka means uniting, conjunction.<br />

In this context, Anandabhalta interprets it as sakalasya<br />

asya vedya-vedaka-iidi-raseb khillkrlasvabhavab i. e. 'one who has<br />

risen above all the distinctions of the knower and the known<br />

etc., and has thus acquired the nature of Bhairava.' According<br />

to the Kaula tradition melapaka means the gathering or union<br />

of the siddhas and the yoginls.<br />

4. The question of Bhairavi was "who is para devl or the<br />

highest sakti (power) of the divine 1" The answer that Bhairava<br />

'has given is that para devl is only the sakli or nature of Bhairava<br />

that everything in the universe is only an expression of that<br />

nature and that out of the 112 dharlU,lQs described, if anyone<br />

masters even one dharlU,lii, he would attain that divine nature.<br />

Bhairavi now puts a further question "If every thing in the<br />

universe is only an expression of the divine and if the aspirant<br />

. by practising to perfection anyone of the dhiirlU,las becomes<br />

divine, then what becomes of tho distinction between the devotee
