Welcome to the 54th Annual Saratoga Rotary Art Show
The Art Show that Keeps on Giving
It is with great pleasure and sincere thanks that I greet you at the 2011 Saratoga Rotary Art
Show. We at Rotary are proud of our 54 of years of continuous presentations that have raised over
two million dollars donated to the many charities we support. That’s why we think of the show as
The Art Show That Keeps On Giving, as every purchase you make contributes to the Saratoga
Rotary’s Charitable Foundation to help support local charities and causes. An art show of this size
and complexity takes the combined efforts of the 125 Saratoga Rotary members, their spouses and
friends; over two hundred volunteers in all, and a community-minded, art-loving citizenry from the
surrounding area.
We are delighted to present almost two hundred of the finest artists’ work in a variety of
categories: paintings, jewelry, sculpture, fabric art, ceramics, photography and on and on. In the center
of this brochure is a map of the art show layout. On either side of the map, there are pages listing
the artists exhibiting with a thumbnail picture of an example of their art.
Also, please find the art show major sponsors and the advertisements of many of the artists and
local businesses and other well wishers and supporters of the art show. We are most grateful for
the support of our sponsors and advertisers, the hard working Rotarians, students, and high school
athletes who help with the set-up and take-down and all of the complex tasks that must be done to
put the show together.
In addition to the art you will find:
• The Saratoga Idol competition (Thia Megia, an American Idol finalist was the first
Saratoga Idol winner)
• The Kids’ Korner for childrens’ amusement
• Food for all, including the Saratoga Pepper Bellies and Strawberry Smoothies
• Wine Sampling from our famous Saratoga Wineries
• Art created by elementary, middle school and West Valley College students
• A Silent Auction with many fine and interesting items
• A Raffle opportunity to win $5,000, $3,000 or $1000
So, pick up a raffle ticket, purchase your favorite art work (or 2 or 3), have a fine glass of wine,
watch the Saratoga Idol Contest and Fashion Show and most of all enjoy the relaxing atmosphere
surrounded by great art. Again, many thanks to our generous sponsors, our hard working
Rotarians and volunteers and most of all your support of The Art Show That Keeps on Giving.
About the Saratoga Rotary Art Show
The first Saratoga Rotary Art Show, held
in Saratoga Village, showcased 20 Artists.
The goals of the Show have not changed in
54 years: to present high quality contemporary,
juried art; to create a wonderful
community event; and to raise funds for
non-profit organizations. Over the years, the
Show has grown in size and stature. People
can appreciate quality art, enjoy the event
and the opportunity to contribute to their
community through their purchases. We are
proud that the Saratoga Rotary Art Show
has returned over $2 million to non-profit
and charitable organizations through the
Saratoga Rotary Charitable Foundation and
its grant process.
Teresa Saia
2011 Cover/Poster Artist
Teresa Saia has firmly established herself
within the art community, demonstrating a
sophistication of style, dynamic use of color,
and a sensitivity for light. A native of Washington,
she has studied with leading artists
throughout the US and abroad. Her studio
is located in the historic Seattle district
of Pioneer Square, an environment that
provides vital energy for her creativity.
Teresa’s work encompasses the medium
of pastel. Known for consistent, direct style,
she captures the attention of many collectors
with her expressive use of radiant and rich
color. The mood and emotion conveyed in
her paintings evoke a deep sense of the mysterious,
romantic, peaceful and yet familiar
settings. Her paintings explore the worlds
she has discovered in her many travels
abroad each year, as well as the beauty she
finds in the Pacific Northwest.
Teresa has a strong following in both private
and corporate collections. Recognized
by numerous national awards, her paintings
embody a passion she feels for all her
subject matter.
The medium of pastel is enjoying a renaissance,
not seen since the impressionists.
Because they sit on the surface of the ground
(paper), they have excellent light refraction
quality. All of Teresa’s works are originals,
created on the finest archival quality papers.
All the originals are framed using archival
materials, including museum glass which has
both UV block and reflection control.
Dr. Richard Ressman
bought his first bought a
Nikon in 1969 and developed
photos in his tiny
intern’s call room. In 2002
he switched from orthopaedic
surgeon to professional
photographer and moved
to Cupertino, CA with wife,
Professor Gabriele Rico. The
incredible resolution and
stunning appeal of the archival photographs
are a result of using the latest Nikon and
PhaseOne cameras and highest quality materials.
His photos are in private and corporate
collections throughout the US and in many
foreign countries
“By wrapping 2100° molten glass
on a blowpipe my journey can
begin. Using gravity, centrifugal
force, and my own breath; I can
take an amorphous blob of material
and create what is only limited by
my own imagination. The colors
and forms that I create are inspired
by my natural environment.
Whether that means the river
flowing through our valley, the lines
of strata in our mountains, or the
angular patterns of the city, I find
stimulus everywhere I look.”
Rustik Woodkraft was started in
October of 2005 for the purpose of
selling my unique one of a kind,
handmade lathe art. In a 6 years I
have turned over 650 bowls for use
as both functional and display art.
My art has won several awards in
the three dimensional art catagory
at various art shows in the San
