the recruiting service in Vermont, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania,
and garrison duty at Fort Hamilton, N.Y. Letters
written by Brinckle from Virginia, 1864-65, relate to the
Wilderness, Spotsylvania, Petersburg, and Appomattox campaigns,
and the Battle of Cold Harbor. Also includes a few
details on the Battle of Sayler's Creek. A diary, Feb. 3-Sept.
20,1865, contains sketches of Federal batteries and shelters at
the Siege of Petersburg.
