comments on casualties, disease, hospital care, inflation,<br />

discipline, desertions, depredations by both Union and Confederate<br />

soldiers, stealing <strong>from</strong> Confederate supply depots, <strong>the</strong><br />

contribution <strong>of</strong> sou<strong>the</strong>rn women to <strong>the</strong> <strong>war</strong> effort, and <strong>the</strong> displacement<br />

<strong>of</strong> blacks. Also includes a few biographical notes on<br />
