camp life, medical supplies, <strong>the</strong> attitude <strong>of</strong> noncombatants in<br />

sou<strong>the</strong>ast Virginia, <strong>the</strong> treatment <strong>of</strong> Jefferson Davis during<br />

his confinement at Fort Monroe, Confederate prisoners <strong>of</strong> <strong>war</strong>,<br />

problems with black soldiers, <strong>the</strong> arrest <strong>of</strong> several members <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> "Knights <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Golden Circle," reaction among soldiers<br />

and <strong>civil</strong>ians to <strong>the</strong> Lincoln assassination, and <strong>the</strong> arrest <strong>of</strong><br />
