1861-Nov. 30, 1864, concerning <strong>the</strong> performance <strong>of</strong> Wade<br />

Hampton's legion in <strong>the</strong> Battle <strong>of</strong> 1st Manassas, <strong>the</strong> Peninsular<br />

Campaign, and <strong>the</strong> Shenandoah Valley Campaign <strong>of</strong> 1864.<br />

Includes information on camp life, troop movements, marches,<br />

<strong>the</strong> selection <strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficers, disease, hospital care, hunger in <strong>the</strong><br />

Confederate Army in 1864, and devastation in <strong>the</strong> Shenandoah<br />

Valley. Letters written by Habersham while serving as chief<br />

clerk at a hospital in Richmond, Va., describe life in <strong>the</strong> Confederate<br />

capital in 1862 and 1863. Also includes a few letters <strong>of</strong> A.<br />

M. Habersham <strong>of</strong> Annapolis, Md., concerning his imprisonment<br />

at Fort McHenry.<br />
