The Wilkhahn stand at Orgatec 2010 had plenty
of interesting highlights – for example
prototypes of the new conference chair Graph.
Press release
10.11.2010
Wilkhahn at Orgatec 2010:
Responsible Furniture a crowd puller
Wilkhahn is a leading manufacturer of highquality
office chairs and conference furnishings.
The company exhibited at the international
premier fair Orgatec in Cologne and is delighted
with the end results. At the beginning of
Orgatec, quite a stir was caused by three
cutting-edge innovations, two attractive
additions to ranges and an impressive stand.
Furthermore, the company won the 2011
German Design Award for office chair ON,
showcased for the first time at the fair. As a
result, Wilkhahn was not affected by the slight
decline in visitors at this year’s Orgatec. In fact
quite the opposite: wiege once again designed
the stand which proved to be a crowd-puller.
This year, one of the highlights was Wilkhahn’s
stand party, attended by 600 guests from all
over the world.
Bad Münder, Germany. At Orgatec 2010,
Wilkhahn’s theme was “Responsible Furniture". By
offering this antidote to the throw-away society, the
winner of the German Environmental Prize is
underscoring its aim of combining timeless design, a
high level of functionality and durability in its
products. The latest baby in the successful ON
product family, the ON conference chair, is just one
example. Due to patented Trimension and threedimensional
flexibility, long, inactive meetings with
back pain are passé.
Also premiered were two new table models to round
off very successful ranges. After the legendary
Confair folding table and Timetable, Wilkhahn the
inventor of moveable and stackable tables, presented
a third range of models. Called Timetable Shift, it is
also designed by Andreas Störiko, like the first two
classic ranges. The designer also created the light
rectangular tables from the Aline range that are ideal
for cafeterias.

technology allows manufacture of a
comfortable, lightweight chair with a frame
made of strong steel metal. A chair which is
functional, attractive and has an impressive
carbon footprint. Photo: Wilkhahn
Superb design concept: the Graph prototype
The prototypes of a very aesthetically appealing
conference chair, designed by Jehs + Laub, received a
great deal of attention. The main design concept was
to divide and re-assemble a seat shell so that the
armrests become the key connecting elements
between the seat and backrest. As a result, the
unitary shell form is still recognisable. Due to the cutout
section and the armrests open at the sides, a high
level of visual lightness is also achieved. The chair
offers flexible comfort thanks to an innovative leaf
spring. Graph is scheduled to go into production in
the second half of 2011.
Automotive progress meets chair design
Wilkhahn had a spectacular world premiere to
celebrate in a factory shed in Cologne Ehrenfeld.
Together with designer Stefan Diez, president Dr.
Jochen Hahne unfolded a new chapter in furniture
history before an audience of 350 guests from home
and abroad: multi-purpose chair Chassis. Using
space-frame technology from advanced vehicle-body
manufacturing for the first time, it combines comfort
and durability with the precision and elegance of a
fascinating design. “When we presented the
prototype at Orgatec two years ago, virtually nobody
believed that we would be able to translate this
technology into chair design”, recalls Hahne. “It was
a hard nut to crack, but now we’re proud and
delighted that Chassis is going into production”.
Orgatec - a growth booster
After Wilkhahn had already left the recession behind
in spring, above all due to office chair ON’s success,
another milestone was noted at Orgatec. This year,
the company is already expecting 30 percent growth
in sales. “Our products prove that real innovations
and added value can produce remarkable growth
even in difficult times”, comments Hahne. “And
we’re sure that 2011 will be a very good year for
Wilkhahn too”.
