Process for psycho-educational assessment
•
Parent contacts psychologist.
Parent(s) meet with the psychologist to discuss their concerns and the child’s
developmental history.
An assessment time is scheduled for the child. 1 or 2 sessions will be required,
depending on the individual child’s specific needs. Assessments may include an IQ
test, visual perceptual assessment, spelling and reading test etc. The aim is to
determine the child’s specific strengths, whether any learning deficits exist, and to
provide guidance to teachers and make the appropriate referrals to other professionals
if necessary.
Other professionals are contacted for collateral information if permission has been
granted by the parents.
Parent(s) are provided with feedback and a report.
Feedback is provided to the teachers if consent has been given by the parent(s).

The child meets with the psychologist on a weekly basis for 50-60 minutes. The
number of sessions required depends on each individual child. All information is
treated as strictly confidential.
Feedback is provided to the parent(s) as deemed necessary or appropriate by the
psychologist. Parent(s) are welcome to make regular contact with the psychologist.
Therapy is terminated with consent by the parent(s).
