The Family Support Team aims to provide a<br />
range <strong>of</strong> services to children <strong>and</strong> young people<br />
who have severe <strong>and</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>ound learning<br />
disabilities <strong>and</strong> their families. They provide<br />
services which include:<br />
family based respite care, child sitting,<br />
holiday playschemes, parent support groups,<br />
individual contact worker support, <strong>and</strong> more.<br />
A national disability in<strong>for</strong>mation <strong>and</strong> advice<br />
service, specialising in in<strong>for</strong>mation on cerebral<br />
palsy <strong>and</strong> complex disabilities. A wide range <strong>of</strong><br />
books, videos, audio cassettes <strong>and</strong> journals<br />
about cerebral palsy <strong>and</strong> other disabilities can be<br />
borrowed.<br />
Contact a Family help families caring <strong>for</strong> a child<br />
<strong>with</strong> any disability or special need. They aim to<br />
link families together <strong>and</strong> encourage mutual<br />
support between parents.<br />
They produce reliable fact sheets <strong>and</strong><br />
in<strong>for</strong>mation packs. Their website is very<br />
in<strong>for</strong>mative <strong>and</strong> useful.<br />
Their helpline can give you in<strong>for</strong>mation, support<br />
& advice.<br />
<strong>Dundee</strong> <strong>Carers</strong> Centre is part <strong>of</strong> the Princes<br />
Royal Trust. They aim to improve the lives <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>Carers</strong>* through practical <strong>and</strong> emotional support,<br />
in<strong>for</strong>mation about services, rights &benefits <strong>and</strong><br />
advocacy.<br />
(*A Carer is someone who provides unpaid care &<br />
support to a child, partner, family member or friend<br />
who could not manage <strong>with</strong>out their help)<br />
The Family Fund is an independent organisation<br />
registered as a charity <strong>and</strong> funded entirely by the<br />
Government through the Department <strong>of</strong> Health.<br />
Grants to low income families raising disabled<br />
<strong>and</strong> seriously ill children <strong>and</strong> young people are<br />
given to families to help ease the additional<br />
pressures families face. These grants are <strong>for</strong><br />
items related to the daily care <strong>of</strong> the child i.e. a<br />
washing machine, bedding, a computer, a<br />
holiday, driving lessons, furniture<br />
