This organisation only provides advocacy, <strong>and</strong> is independent <strong>of</strong> service providers such as<br />

Social Work, Health <strong>and</strong> Education.<br />

Advocacy means representing the point <strong>of</strong> view <strong>of</strong> someone who finds it difficult to speak up<br />

<strong>for</strong> themselves.<br />

Partners in Advocacy recruits unpaid responsible members <strong>of</strong> society to become advocates<br />

<strong>for</strong> children <strong>with</strong> learning disabilities. These people are, vetted, trained <strong>and</strong> supported by the<br />

organisation.<br />

Advocates are matched to one child, <strong>and</strong> their role is to get to know the child on a long-term<br />

basis, <strong>and</strong> ensure that their views are taken account <strong>of</strong>.<br />

Partners in Advocacy carries out an enhanced police check <strong>and</strong> an in depth recruitment<br />

process, <strong>and</strong> supports the advocacy partnership throughout.<br />

The advocate is primarily representing the child's point <strong>of</strong> view, but is encouraged to develop<br />

good working relationships <strong>with</strong> all involved in the child's care. They cannot however,<br />

advocate on behalf <strong>of</strong> parents or other family members, <strong>and</strong> they are independent <strong>of</strong><br />

pr<strong>of</strong>essionals.<br />
