INFLUENCE OF ETHNICITY ON PATIENT REPORTED OUTCOME AFTER TOTAL<br />

HIP REPLACEMENT<br />

We hypothesized that patients born abroad and patients with low income report lower<br />

quality of life according to EQ-5D and benefit less from the surgical procedure. Preoperative<br />

and one-year post-operative data from Swedish Hip Arthroplasty Register,<br />

including 1309 patients (1317 hips) with primary osteoarthritis of the hip operated<br />

between years 2002 and 2006 were analyzed. All patients completed the EQ-5D<br />

form, filled in a VAS scale about pain and Charnley class pre-operatively and at one<br />

year post-operatively, when a VAS scale about overall satisfaction was added.<br />

Information about country of birth, living alone/married or cohabiting and income was<br />

provided by the Swedish tax office.Patients born in Sweden had better life quality and<br />

less pain and were more satisfied one year after the operation than those born<br />

abroad (p
