LONG-TERM FUNCTIONAL OUTCOME OF CUBOID FRACTURES<br />

Introduction: Cuboid fractures (CF) are rare and functional outcome remains underreported.<br />

The purpose of this study was to evaluate functional outcome in patients<br />

with CF. Method: A prospective analysis was undertaken on a cohort of 86 patients<br />

diagnosed with CF between 2002 and 2007 at a Level I teaching trauma center.<br />

Functional outcome assessment included Foot Function Index (FFI) and Short<br />

Musculoskeletal Function Assessment (SMFA). Results: 45 patients with 47 CF<br />

returned valid questionnaires. Age averaged 45 years (range 17-72) and BMI 29.0<br />

(range 17.5-48.9). Three injuries were isolated and five open. AO/OTA-07<br />

classification included 15 Type 84-A and 32 Type 84-B fracture pattern. Associated<br />

foot injuries (AFI) included 32 metatarsal, 25 Lisfranc, 21 navicular, 17 cuneiform, 15<br />

calcaneus, 11 talus, Survey follow-up averaged 52 months (range 13-93). FFI<br />

averaged 35.1; SMFA indices were Daily 25.2, Emotional 35.0, Arm-Hand 7.6,<br />

Mobility 33.6, Dysfunction 26.3, and Bother 27.5. CF performed significantly worse<br />

compared to normative values in all functional scores except Arm-Hand (t-test,<br />

p3) had significant worse functional status<br />
