Poster Topic: Paediatrics Abstract number: 26397 DOES SALTER'S OSTEOTOMY RETROVERT THE ACETABULUM IN DEVELOPMENTAL DYSPLASIA OF HIP? Aditya MOOTHA, Raghav SAINI PGIMER, Chandigarh (INDIA) Salter’s osteotomy had been condemned in the past for the retroversion of the acetabulum, when it is used in the patients with developemental dysplasia of hip. These studies were based upon the indirect measurement of the acetabulum anteversion on radiographs rather than the actual measurement. Acetabulum retroversion is blamed for the acetabular impingement and early onset of degeneration. Study included the 45 children with unilateral developmental dysplasia of hip and MRI was done to document the pre-operative acetabular anteversion. Open reduction and Salter’s osteotomy was done in all the patients. Post-opertative MRI was done in all the patients to document the post-operative acetabular anteverion.None of our patient had post-operative dislocation and all children were walking without limp at the follow up. Statistical analysis was done and there was no statistical significant difference between the pre-operative and post-operative values of acetabular anteversion. Salters’s osteotomy should be used without any fear for the retroversion of the acetabulum. Salter’s osteotomy corrects the pathoanatomy of DDH in addition to the providing post-operative stability. 386

Poster Topic: Paediatrics Abstract number: 26407 CONGENITAL POSTERO-MEDIAL BOWING OF THE TIBIA AND FIBULA- IS EARLY SURGERY WORTHWHILE? RATNA JOHARI 1 , ASHOK JOHARI 1 , SHALIN MAHESHWARI 2 1 Johari Nursing Home, Mumbai (INDIA), 2 Maheshwari Orthopaedic Hospital, Mumbai (INDIA) Methods - 22 children with congenital postero-medial bowing of the tibia and fibula from 1991 to 2009, 13 patients underwent conservative treatment, 9 patients of whom 3 underwent corrective osteotomy for the correction of bowing and intorsion and 6 underwent lengthening and deformity correction with Ilizarov fixator. The angles of medial and posterior angulation and limb length discrepancy were recorded before and after surgery and on follow-up (mean follow-up after surgery - 6.1 years) along with the complications. Results - Although there was a reduction in angulation and correction of limb length discrepancy we encountered a high incidence of complications. Conclusions - We advocate a one stage lengthening and correction of the residual deformity closer to skeletal maturity. 387
