Proximal femoral epiphysiolysis (PFE) is a rare condition with an unknown<br />

aetiopathogenesis. An early diagnosis and treatment is essential to minimize<br />

premature degeneration of the joint. The authors reviewed the cases treated between<br />

1980 and 2005 in our institution. This study was aimed at evaluating patients with hip<br />

epiphysiolysis surgically treated by canullated screws or pinning and previously<br />

controlled by short-term follow-up, in order to evaluate their level of physical activity,<br />

complaints and hip mobility. These patients were contacted and clinically reviewed<br />

with the application of the Tegner and Lysholm activity score, and the Larson Hip<br />

score. The scores were also applied in the contralateral hip, serving as a control<br />

group. The functional score is correlated with the patient’s radiological result<br />
