MANAGEMANT OF SUPRACONDYLAR FRACTURES IN CHILDREN WITH<br />

CLOSED REDUCTION & PERCUTANEOUS PINNING<br />

CASES - 22 patients, age up to 16 years , Grade II & III supracondylar fracture of<br />

humerus. From - May 2005 to May 2006. Attending OPD, IPD and casualty at<br />

R.M.C., Loni. PROCEDURE - closed manual reduction and percutaneous pinning<br />

with at least two Kirschner wires of various sizes from l mm to 2.5 mm. Above elbow<br />

slab for 3 weeks. Gradual passive mobilization - next 2 weeks. Kirschner wires<br />

removal after good clinical and radiological union was seen (approx. 6 weeks).<br />

Active assisted mobilization. Patients follow up - fortnightly till 6 months. Evaluation<br />

done both clinically and radiologically. FOLLOW-UP - Use of collar & cuff sling with<br />

posterior slab. Physiotherapy Started after 3weeks. After the removal ofk' wires<br />

active assisted exercises done. RESULT- Excellent - 73 % Satisfactory - 13.5 %<br />

Unsatisfactory - 9 % Poor - 4.5 %<br />
