CLINICAL RESULTS OF MINIMALLY INVASIVE TOTAL HIP ARTHROPLASTY<br />

VIA THE ANTEROLATERAL APPROACH IN THE SUPINE POSITION<br />

Since 2007, we performed a minimally invasive total hip arthroplasty (MIS-THA) for a<br />

consecutive series of 137 patients. Clinical results in MIS-THA were compared with<br />

those of in a series of 147 conventional THA (c-THA) before 2007. The purpose of<br />

this study was to determine whether MIS-THA is less invasive than c-THA. In both<br />

groups, patients underwent THA through the anterolateral approach in the supine<br />

position. In MIS-THA, no muscles were detached. Averages of operative times, total<br />

blood loss, post-operative values of creatinine kinase were significantly smaller in<br />

MIS-THA than c-THA (p
