CLINICAL RESULTS OF MINIMALLY INVASIVE TOTAL HIP ARTHROPLASTY
VIA THE ANTEROLATERAL APPROACH IN THE SUPINE POSITION

Since 2007, we performed a minimally invasive total hip arthroplasty (MIS-THA) for a
consecutive series of 137 patients. Clinical results in MIS-THA were compared with
those of in a series of 147 conventional THA (c-THA) before 2007. The purpose of
this study was to determine whether MIS-THA is less invasive than c-THA. In both
groups, patients underwent THA through the anterolateral approach in the supine
position. In MIS-THA, no muscles were detached. Averages of operative times, total
blood loss, post-operative values of creatinine kinase were significantly smaller in
