Considered – Report of the Housing Strategy & Policy Manager.
Other Options Considered –
a) selling all of the garage sites for private development and using the
proceeds to support affordable housing elsewhere in the District
b) not selling the sites which would leave the Council with the responsibility
for maintenance issues and any health and safety matters which may
arise as a result of the deteriorating condition of the sites.

RECOMMENDATIONS TO COUNCIL
1. To approve plans to dispose of 7 Council owned garage sites at nil value
to East Midlands Housing Association for the purpose of developing 18
affordable housing units.
2. To approve the release of the remaining 5 Council owned sites for sale.
Reasons:
1. Development of affordable housing complies with the local ambitions and
the objectives of the District’s Community Plan (Sustainable Community
Strategy) 2011-2014 and the Blaby District Council Corporate Plan 2011-
2014
2. In management terms the 12 retained sites listed in the report have
increased in liability for the Council from a Health and Safety perspective.
