olds
Stage 6 Accommodation and Support by
Children’s Social Care
Where a young person becomes a child in care,
Children’s Social Care becomes financially
responsible and the young person will no longer be
eligible to claim benefits.
When a young person has been accommodated
Children’s Social Care will complete a Core
Assessment and pathway plan to outline the young
person’s accommodation and support needs
Part 7 Special Circumstances
If a young person is ordered not to return home,
there is a risk that they could be remanded in
custody if they do not have an address. In these
circumstances Youth Offending Services will be
responsible for exploring accommodation options
with the young person, including kinship networks
and friends.
If there are no available accommodation options,
provided Youth Offending Service has explored all
of the available accommodation options and
recorded this, they should refer directly to
Children’s Social Care
Where a young person is in custody and it is likely
that they will be homeless on release; Youth
Worcestershire, Sussex, Norfolk County
Council’s

In the case of a young person being subject to a
Care Order or accommodated under S20 of the
Children Act 1989, funding will be provided by
Children’s Services and they will not be eligible for
Housing Benefit. (Worcestershire)
If a young person does not engage with support, the
Young Persons Worker will carry out a home visit.
Joint visits with Children’s Social Care will be carried
out where appropriate. (Sussex)
