Priority 1 - Vibrant Places – Sustaining & Improving the
Environment
Ambition 1: There will be less nuisance and fewer community safety
issues relating to traffic.
• Consider and represent community views to Leicestershire County Council and partners etc on
traffic issues, relating to infrastructure, development proposals and Core Strategy.
• Deliver and update Air Quality Action Plans.
Ambition 2: There will be greater opportunities for people to travel by
public transport and means other than the car.
• To ensure that the Development Plan enables opportunities for reduced car use, increased
public transport networks and for us to influence the provision of infrastructure.
Ambition 3: Community areas including recreation, parks and open
spaces and streets will be clear for all to enjoy and use.
• Deliver the Clean & Safe Strategy.
• Deliver the Green Space Strategy Action Plan.
Ambition 4: Blaby town centre will provide a greater retail experience
for shoppers.
• Support and develop the Blaby Town Centre Partnership to improve the Town Centre ‘offer’ for
residents, businesses and customers.
Ambition 5: Use of current infrastructure (roads, community facilities,
public realm) will be maximised and improved where economically
viable.
• Put a rigorous process in place to deal with potential challenge through ‘The Community Right to
Bid’.
Ambition 6: New infrastructure (roads, community facilities etc) will
be included as appropriate to support any proposed growth through
development.
• Use the planning system to support the provision of new infrastructure.
Ambition 7: The housing needs of communities will be met, including
ensuring affordable housing for all age groups across the District.
• Deliver the Development Plan.
• Review and deliver the Housing Strategy and associated policies including production of an
affordable housing supplementary planning document and a vulnerable persons housing
strategy.
