Portfolio Holder’s Quarterly Statement
PRIORITY 1
• The Housing Options Teams are now holding locality meetings with Children’s
Occupational Therapy services in order to progress complex child cases more quickly.
This approach has worked well with adult occupational therapy services.
• New partnership arrangements have been developed with Acorn Training who now have a
member of staff based within the Community Services Team who provides access to
employment support for individuals and families
• BB19 summer road shows held 12 locations in August reaching 252 young people
• The Benefits Team have started a ‘lean thinking’ intervention to look at ways of improving
the service that are provided to our customers. Given the forthcoming welfare reform
changes the time is right for this intervention with an intention of looking at the barriers or
obstacles that prevent us from being able to carry out our daily work/tasks
PRIORITY 2
• Information regarding emergency heating grants has been widely published on facebook, twitter
and in contact magazine and the new parish council newsletter as have the dates for available
properties on our Choice Based Lettings scheme. We have also been promoting the late night
Thursday housing options session at Blaby service shop.
• Consultation on the Council Tax Support changes from April 2013 has now ended.
Further considerations as to the final scheme are now underway
• Early preparation work has begun on the raft of welfare reform changes that will have an
impact on Blaby residents which include the Social Fund, changes to LHA rules,
introduction of the size criteria rules for social housing and the planned introduction of the
benefit cap
