The purpose of the Champions’ Club
summer work internship program is
to increase the attractiveness of the
football program to potential recruits
and their parents, to enrich the football
experience of existing players as they
prepare for their career after school and
to continue to deliver on the objectives
of the Champions Club.
Eligible players will be exposed to a
summer work experience that would not
typically be available to most students.
The program is designed to help attract
the best recruits to Western by showing
them the commitment both of the school
and the Champions Club to Mustang
football. The player’s marketability
for employment after school will be
enhanced through the internship
experience.
The placement helps the player with
their academics as they become
interested in the internship line of
work and are dedicated to getting the
marks required to enter that field.
There is an advantage to any
employer. They will have access
to a select pool of talent that has
demonstrated the ability to play at an
elite level of University football, while
maintaining the academic standards
required of a student-athlete at Western.
The employer will have the opportunity
to see the quality of the player’s work
firsthand, and this could assist in any
future job openings they may have.
The target employer is one who will be
able to provide an experience that will
enhance a player’s future marketability
and development.
The program is looking for jobs that
are outside of the typical summer work
placements most students would find.
We are looking for unique opportunities
that potential recruits would recognize as
internship Program
desirable and supportive of their careers
after graduation. It needs to be seen
as an important part of their decisionmaking
process when choosing a school
and football program.
Any player that participates will be an
undergraduate beyond second year
that is in good standing. The selection
process would shortlist players that
meet the criteria with a selection
panel finalizing a list of applicants they
believe are suitable for the opportunity.
The list would be sent to the company
for final review and selection of the
player. We are trying to build a pool of
companies that are able to offer summer
employment when there is a good fit
between the available players and the
company.
Adam Hrytzak worked at Ricoh Canada
in the internship
program, and he was a valuable addition
to the Ricoh team. He learned about
the technology industry from the initial
sales call, to creating presentations and
finalizing the business opportunity. He
was exposed to all levels of contacts
within different businesses and has
to be able to communicate effectively
with them. He worked closely with the
existing team, the Branch Manager and
the Vice President to gain insight on how
the business works and functions.
Adam presented himself in a
professional manner and represents
Ricoh well. He brings a strong work
ethic and dedication to the job along
with a very personable approach. His
good work has resulted in new sales for
the branch. Everyone enjoys working
with him and having him around.
Ricoh Canada Inc. said they would not
hesitate to hire him as a full-time Ricoh
employee after graduation.
Hrytzak said he really enjoyed his
experience.
“Taking my education outside of the
classroom with Ricoh Canada Inc. has
allowed me to gain real world experience
that will not only assist in my studies but
also in my future career decisions,” he
said. “Throughout the summer internship
program, I was required to exercise the
knowledge that I had gained during
my time at The University of Western
Ontario. This program also challenged
me to develop new skill and information
that will only aid my development and
readiness for the business world.”
