Music: Walter Smither Lyrics: Margaret Ovens Arrangement: Don Wright Mustang Pride Western Mustangs Marching Band The Western Mustangs Marching Band is the award-winning marching and pep band for The University <strong>of</strong> Western Ontario. It was started in 1938 by music faculty alumnus Don Wright (for whom the faculty is now named), and it has thrived since then into the band <strong>of</strong> today. The band is comprised <strong>of</strong> students from first to fourth year from every faculty on campus, and marches under the musical direction <strong>of</strong> Jamie Bird. For more information on the Western Mustangs Marching Band, please contact westernmustangband@hotmail.com Cheerleaders The Western Mustangs cheerleaders are the Canadian intercollegiate cheerleading dynasty, winning all but one national cheerleading championship. This is the cheeleading team’s 80th anniversary after first taking to the football field to cheer on teh Mustnags upon their formation and entry into the Senior Intercollegiate <strong>Football</strong> League. Coached by David-Lee Tracey - or just “Trace” to those who know him - the team has won 23 <strong>of</strong> the 24 national championships and captures titles and various North American championships each year against the top U.S. schools. Dance Pack In their inaugural season, the Mustangs Dance Pack won they lyrical dance event at the 2008 Rhythm and Dance university and college competition at the University <strong>of</strong> Waterloo and placed second in two others, jazz and hip hop. Nine other teams competed including Humber <strong>College</strong>, York, Ryerson, Toronto, Ottawa, Huron <strong>College</strong>, Wilfrid Laurier, UOIT and host Waterloo.
