Western has had a storied tradition in<br />

football that emanates from the campus<br />

every fall. Winning a new record 27th<br />

Yates Cup title last November in Guelph,<br />

Western became the province’s best<br />

football school through history.<br />

The team has also won six national<br />

titles in 1994, 1989, 1977, 1976, 1974<br />

and 1971.<br />

With winning records against 16<br />

schools nationally, only three schools<br />

Mustangs History<br />

have better overall records against the<br />

Mustangs through history. Western has<br />

won almost three quarters <strong>of</strong> the games<br />

played at home - whether at J.W. Little<br />

Stadium or at TD Waterhouse Stadium,<br />

the Mustangs current home.<br />

Nine OUA MVP honours have been<br />

bestowed on Western football players,<br />

while five Mustangs have won the<br />

Hec Crighton Trophy as the nation’s<br />

top football player (Jamie Bone, Greg<br />

Marshall, Blake<br />

Marshall, Tim Tindale twice and Andy<br />

Fantuz).<br />

Darwin Semotiuk (1976) and Larry<br />

Haylor (1990, 1998) have twice won the<br />

CIS coach <strong>of</strong> the year award, the Frank<br />

Tindall Trophy, while the pair also<br />
