Chinese New Year 2013 – The Year of the Snake
As the longest and most
important festival
in the chinese calender,
Chinese New Year is itself
centuries old and is a major
holiday for the Chinese.
Known as ‘Spring Festival’, it
marks the end of the winter
season. Customs and traditions
concerning the celebration
of the Chinese New Year
vary widely. People pour out
their money to buy presents,
decoration, material, food, and
clothing. It is also traditional for
families to thoroughly cleanse the
house in order to sweep away any
ill-fortune and to make way for
good incoming luck. Windows
and doors will be decorated
with red coloured paper with
popular themes good fortune,
happiness, wealth and longevity.
Chinese New Year’s Eve is the
annual dinner where the family
feast and end the night with
firecrackers! The next morning,
children will greet their parents
by wishing them a healthy and
happy New Year, and receive
money in red paper envelopes.
The Chinese New Year tradition is
to reconcile, forget all grudges
and sincerely wish peace and
happiness for everyone. It ends
15 days into the New Year with
the Lantern Festival.
The Year of the Snake
signifies steady progress,
attention to detail, and focus
and discipline to accomplish
what you set out to achieve.
The Snake is the sixth sign of the
Chinese Zodiac and is the most
enigmatic, intuitive, introspective
and refined of the Animal Signs.
Ancient Chinese wisdom says
a Snake in the house is a good
omen because it means that your
family will not starve.
