The house has an exterior
garden and a swimming
pool. The curved shapes of
the fireplace are supported
on the stairs that lead down
to the semi-basement.
The main door marks the
highest point on the plot
and opens to an ample hall
that distributes the rooms
in the ground floor.
The house also boasts a
heated swimming pool
with several deck chairs
designed by the studio.
JOAQUÍN TORRES, ARCHITECT
In 1996, the architecture and townplanning
studio A-cero started operating,
and it has had a very fast evolution. The
studio has grown at an amazing pace,
and it has doubled its staff as the work
volume increased in recent years. Its
origin is in the town of A Coruña, but they
soon enlarged their offices and opened
their central headquarters in Madrid. The
studio, headed by the tandem of architects
Joaquín Torres and Rafael Llamazares,
has since its beginnings focused on an
integral development of architectural
projects: turnkey deliveries, all of them
works previously designed by the architect
team. Its architecture outstands, as it is
very current, pondered over and neat, and
special attention is paid to each and every
detail. Nowadays, they maintain an office
in A Coruña, have also facilities in Dubai
and in the near future will open an office
in the Dominican Republic. The key to the
success of their many works, according
to Joaquín Torres, lies in not losing the
coherence of the idea all throughout the
process. Outstanding among their projects
are single-family houses, singular buildings,
offices, as well as interior design and
landscaping projects.
capacity for eight cars, a storeroom and a junk room. As regards the
distribution of the semi-basement, it opens onto the garden thanks
to huge glaziers. It has four bedrooms, a guest lounge, the changingrooms
of the exterior swimming pool, a media room and, finally, the
rooms arranged for domestic help: bedrooms, office, drying-place,
lounge, storerooms and facility rooms. The upper floor is reserved to
the painting workshop, with lots of natural light.
To attain an effect of continuity among the different spaces, the
team of architects enhanced that feeling by paving the three floors
with white big-format porcelain stoneware, highly resistant and durable.
Concerning the walls, the architects chose the white colour for the
semi-basement floor and a grey tone for the upper floors, matching
with the facade of rough-textured concrete. Another important element
in the conception of this house is water. From the entry door a series
of flooded roofs visually connect with the exterior swimming pool and
with the lake. The garden has also been designed by the landscaping
department of A-cero. /
