It’s beginning to look (and sound!) a lot like Christmas at Shady Oaks! Donned in Christmas hats, scarves and antlers, team members shared their voices as they caroled through the halls this past week. Many favorite holiday songs were sung that brought back memories, and residents have already been asking Rockwell City Public Library News: Check it Out New Book Spotlight: Running Away to Home by Jennifer Wilson is the refreshing story of the author’s search for her roots in Croatia. The author, along with her husband and two young children pack up their belongings and travel from Des Moines to Mrkopalj, Croatia. To also get in the festive spirit, residents participated in “Make a Joyful Noise”, in which they were able to sing as well. Residents were pleased to have the 3rd graders for the Foster Grandparent Program visit and wish them a Merry Christmas. Another great event was the viewing of the SUNNYVIEW Thank you to Jo Fickbohm for this report. On December 11th the Lanesboro United Methodist Church performed the live/puppet production of “Journey to the Manger.” This spectacular show is a combination of music with animalfaced puppets in the manger made to come to life by the youth group and a few adult helpers. To put on a production like this requires about 13 to 18 performers, stage hands, a driver, two vans, and lots of muscle to move all the stage equipment, speaker system, and numerous puppet faces and plaques. Thirty-seven lucky residents of Sunnyview were in attendance to watch this puppet rendition of the birth of Jesus in the stable at Bethlehem. The puppets added humor to the traditional story of Jesus’ birth. Their little antics and movements and their wide open mouths during the singing of some familiar Christmas songs and one or two songs with their added words brought smiles to 37 faces. The evening concluded with snacks of coffee, root beer and homemade cookies furnished by Marlene Stacy, Clarice Martz and Jo Fickbohm. Thank you to the men for helping move chairs, taking our garbage and with cleanup. Lucille Gray added, “The cast of puppets was behind two levels of blue curtains. From all of us here at Shady Oaks, we hope that you have a very safe, enjoyable and blessed Christmas. We always want to remember that though the presents and get-togethers are lots of fun, the true reason for our celebration should focus on the birth of God’s Son, Jesus Christ. the puppets were lifted as she read. Costumes for the puppets included sheep, camel, mouse, a life-like baby doll, Mary and the Wise Men. Some puppets require two persons to operate – one for the arms and one for the legs. The inn-keeper was in charge of music by guitar and keyboard. Jesus is our Savior from our sins. It was truly an inspiring production.” Thank you to the St. Francis Catholic Church for bringing bars, and to Mrs. Tom Feld for sharing the lovely flower arrangement. Music is a big part of Christmas. Thank you to the Rockwell City Cub Scouts, who came to sing carols at Sunnyview on Thursday evening. There has been Christmas music wafting from the kitchen along with the aroma of good food. The potato bar was a big success on Tuesday. Who knew there could be so many toppings for a potato – bacon, cheese, chili, taco meat, and broccoli. Also, there was ranch pasta salad, lime cheese salad and, to top it all off, Hawaiian cake. Thank you to Cindy Kraft, Jana Blunt, Sandy Alne and Dee Harman. Remember our puzzle from last week? It was, “Can you guess the name of a Christmas carol by looking at the following clue? Hound, in costume, played by Craig Kempcke and Mrs. Tina Grovisner, narrator. Students in grades K-4 were in assembly and listened to the message about proper diet, healthy eating with portion control and daily exercise to be physically fit. Mrs. Grovisner told students that screen time should be limited to no more than 2 hours. Screen time includes television and electronic games. Ten students won prizes like Frisbees electronic jump ropes for answering questions about diet and exercise. The students smiled as they gazed in amazement at Dr. Healthy E. Hound and listened to the message about healthy choices we must all make. Mr. Kempcke and Mrs. Grovisner commented that the students were well behaved and very attentive. These speakers came to our school from United Health Care out of Urbandale, Iowa. The Rockwell City-Lytton School District was glad to host these visitors. Doctor Healthy E. Hound
Mr. Robert Ericsson, R.N.
Rockwell City-Lytton School
District
On December 6, 2011 the Rockwell
City Elementary had wonderful
visitors. Doctor Healthy E. Hound,
in costume, played by Craig
Kempcke and Mrs. Tina Grovisner,
narrator. Students in grades K-4
were in assembly and listened to the
message about proper diet, healthy
eating with portion control and daily
exercise to be physically fit. Mrs.
Grovisner told students that screen
time should be limited to no more
than 2 hours. Screen time includes
television and electronic games. Ten
students won prizes like Frisbees
electronic jump ropes for answering
questions about diet and exercise.
The students smiled as they gazed
in amazement at Dr. Healthy E.
Hound and listened to the message
about healthy choices we must
all make. Mr. Kempcke and Mrs.
Grovisner commented that the
students were well behaved and very
attentive. These speakers came to our
school from United Health Care out
of Urbandale, Iowa. The Rockwell
City-Lytton School District was glad
to host these visitors. Special thank
you goes out to the administration
and staff for taking time out of
their busy schedules to reinforce
healthy lifestyles that we all strive to
achieve. Way to Go Titans!!
