Selection Procedures for the
2012 FINA Junior World Championship Team
Adelaide, Australia
The 2012 FINA Junior World Championship will be held in Adelaide,
Australia, October 8 th – 13 th 2012. USA Diving will select a team comprised
of athletes in the FINA Group A and Group B age groups to represent the
United States. The following procedures will govern the selection of athlete
to the team.
The maximum Team size will be 18 divers based on funding availability.
USA Diving reserves the right to increase or decrease the number of athletes
to be selected to the Team. The final decision on Team size will be at the
sole discretion of the USA Diving President and Chief Executive Officer
(CEO) in consultation with the High Performance Director (HPD). The final
Team size will be communicated to the membership not later than the first
day of competition of the 2012 Junior National Championships. FINA rules
permit a maximum of two (2) entries per geneder per country in each
individual event per gender and one (1) synchronized 3 meter team per
gender per country.
NOTE: The 2012 Junior National Champion in a Group A or Group B event
is not guaranteed to be selected to the Junior World Team
1/ INDIVIDUAL EVENTS – Part 1
1.1 Any 2012 Olympic Games Team Members that are juniors in an
individual OR synchronized event are eligible for consideration for
selection to the Junior World Team in the corresponding individual event
based on the following priority:
1.1.1 The Olympic Team member(s) competed in the individual event

1.1.2 The Olympic Team member(s) competed in the synchronized
events and were the ONLY junior diver(s) on the Olympic Team
in that springboard or platform event. In the event there are
more than two (2) different junior divers in both individual and
synchro, then individual will take precedence. Further, in the
event that the only Junior athletes on the Olympic Team are in
the synchronized events, then those divers are selected to the
Team in the equivalent springboard or platform individual event.
1.2 If there are two Olympic Team members who are in the same age group
then both spots for that age group in that event will be filled and no
additional entrants will be selected
1.3 If Olympic Team members are in different age groups then one spot for
that event will be filled in each relevant age group.
1.4 When the Junior World Team spots to be filled by Olympic Team
members are determined by the above selection criteria the next phase of
selection for individual events will be at the 2012 Junior National
Championships
2/ INDIVIDUAL EVENTS – Part 2
2.1 Group B Events: 1m, 3m & Platform
In the event that spots are available for selection,in any or all of those
events the diver with the highest combined score from Preliminary and
Finals in each such event at the 2012 Junior National Championships is
selected to the Junior World Team.
2.2 Group A Events: 1m, 3m & Platform
In the event that spots are available for selection, in any or all of those
events the diver with the highest combined score when adding scores
according to 2.2.1 and 2.2.2 in each such event at the 2012 Junior
National Championships is selected to the Junior World Team.
2.2.1 The total score for all dives from the Preliminary rounds will
count for selection purposes.

2.2.2 Divers in the finals of 16/18 boys (see 2.2.2.1 below) and girls events
MUST nominate one of their optional dives (dives without limited degree of
difficulty) in the finals of each event in which they compete to be removed
from their total score, in order to mirror the same number of dives to be
competed at the 2012 Junior World Championships. This is due to the
difference between USA Diving Rules and FINA Rules. All remaining dives
in the finals will count in the scoring for selection.
2.2.2.1 Divers in the 16/18 boys’ springboard event MUST nominate
a dive for removal from the category that they are repeating so that
ONLY 5 groups of dives are covered as per FINA rules.
2.2.3Only finalists in their respective events will be required to nominate the
dive to not be included in the final cumulative score for selection.
2.4The dive designated to not be included in the Final score must be
nominated within 30 minutes following the respective preliminary event.
3/ SYNCHRONIZED EVENTS
3.1 If both members of the 2012 Olympic Team synchronized 3
meter event are junior divers, then they will be automatically
selected to the Junior World Team for the 3m synchronized
event.
3.2 If one member of the 2012 Olympic Team Synchronized 3
meter event is a junior diver, to be considered for selection for
the Junior World Team for the 3m synchronized event, they
must compete in the 2012 AT&T USA Diving National
Championship to be held in Greensboro, NC August 14 th -19 th
with a partner of their choosing from Group A or Group B
against the winning team from the 2012 Junior National
Championships in the 3m synchronized event.

3.2.1 Additionally, the Olympic Team member that is a junior
may also compete in the finals of the 2012 AT&T USA Diving
National Championship with their 2012 Olympic Partner.
3.3 If the above scenario occurs then both teams will automatically
qualify for the preliminary and finals at the 2012 AT&T USA
Diving National Championship. The Team with the highest
combined score from Preliminaries and Finals is selected to the
2012 Junior World Team. The inclusion of these two teams will
not result in the reduction of teams competing in the finals of
the 2012 AT&T USA Diving National Championship in the 3
meter synchronized events but will be in addition if these teams
do not finish in the scoring to qualify for the finals.
3.4 If there are no Junior divers competing on the Olympic Team in
the synchronized events, then the Team with the highest
combined score from Preliminaries and Finals at the 2012
Junior National Championships will be selected.
1/ INDIVIDUAL EVENTS – Part 3:
If spots on the team and in a particular event are still remaining then the
diver with the next highest combined score described in sections 2.1 and 2.2
above will be selected in the following priority order until the Team size
reaches a maximum of 18 total divers.
NOTE:
If both spots in an individual event have already been filled, that event will
be skipped in the priority order listed below.
i. Group B Girls Platform
ii. Group B Boys Platform
iii. Group B Boys 3 meter
iv. Group B Girls 3 meter
v. Group A Girls Platform
vi. Group A Boys Platform
vii. Group A Boys 3 meter
viii. Group A Girls 3 meter
ix. Group B Girls 1 meter

x. Group B Boys 1 meter
xi. Group A Boys 1 meter
xii. Group A Girls 1 meter
This priority order is based on Olympic Events and future development
towards Olympic success.
If the Team has reached the maximum of 18 divers but 2 divers per
individual event have not been selected, then the following procedure will
determine the second entrant into that event:
a/ The diver has already been selected to the 2012 Junior World
Championship Team in another event
b/ The diver was a finalist at the 2012 Junior National Championships in the
event where a spot is remaining.
Both of these criteria must be met. If there is a tie amongst team members
then the following tie breaker will apply.
The diver with the highest combined score at the 2012 Junior National
Championships in that particular event as set forth in sections 2.1 and 2.2 of
these selection procedures will be selected as the second diver in that event.

Coach of Record:
2012 FINA Junior World Team
Coach Selection Procedures:
A coach may only be considered for selection as a coach to the
team if a diver in the selection events declares his or her “coach of
record” prior to the start of the specific selection event. Once
declared by the diver the “coach of record” cannot be changed
unless approved by the HPD. All references to “Coach” means the
official Coach of Record.
Junior World Team Coaches:
1/ Select the Coach with the most number of spots.
(Divers in individual Olympic events and Synchronized events
count as one (1) spot per diver. Divers in the 1meter events count
as ½ spot per diver)
2/ Select the Coach with the most number of athletes.
If there is a tie –
a) Select the Coach with the highest placed individual from the
selection event
If a tie still exists –
b) Select the coach with the most number of finalists in all events
If a tie still exists –

c) The Junior Diving Committee of the CCE with the agreement of
the HPD will select the coach they believe best serves the needs
of the Team.
NOTE:
The number of Coaches to be selected for the international events
will be determined based on funding availability. The final
decision on the number of Coaches will be in the sole discretion of
the CEO in consultation with the HPD. The final number of
Coaches for the Team will be communicated to the membership
not later than the first day of competition of the 2012 Junior
National Championships.
Potential coach numbers for the 2012 Junior World
Championship is three (3) Coaches.
� All Coaches will be required to renew their USA Diving Coach
Membership by September 1 st 2012 to ensure current membership and
background check are finalized.

� Final approval of all Coaches for the 2012 FINA Junior
World Championship will be subject to approval by the CCE
and CEO of USA Diving Inc.
� Team Managers and Team Staff will be selected by the CEO
of USA Diving Inc.
� Judges for the events will be selected by the Judges Sub-
Committee of CCE
