Nicolas Cesbron, f. 1964
A post industrial jungle
Nature’s own shapes – with the addition of supernatural and
extraterrestrial figures – are strongly present in Nicolas Cesbron’s art
Using wood from Africa, America and Europe, he has created a presence
that breaks down the barriers between reality and fantasy, between
function and art Organic as Nature’s originals, unnatural as though they
had come from outer space – that is how individual objects appear and
float about in a gigantic installation Many of the objects conceal secret
37
functions such as cupboards, writing desks or more apparent as chairs
and lamps
“An exposé of post industrialism’s tragedy,” Nicolas Cesbron wrote
about his work at Avesta Art 2008, a statement that can be interpreted in
many ways The work is a retrospective exhibition from his first fourteen
years as an artist – and a lecture on the wise interplay with Nature
Tomas Nordberg, f. 1948
Ett stycke tid (A piece of time)
The work of art in itself does not make much of an impression – it catches
the eye and relays the artist’s message Transparent surfaces allow the gaze
to move on to something beyond the work of art itself Ett stycke tid gives a
sensation of the release the fire gives when making iron in the smelting works
