Preston Parsons Recorder: Judy Asker Attendance: 49, attendance sheet filed with Minutes MINUTES Annual General Meeting St. Mary Magdalene Church 3 St. Vital Road, Winnipeg, Manitoba Sunday, January 30, 2011, 12:00 noon 1. Opening Prayer – The Rev. Preston Parsons opened with prayer at 12:06p.m. Slideshow by Luc Moulaison, Sophie Moulaison and Jane Barter Moulaison. 2. Adoption of the Agenda MOTION: Gerry Brown motioned to adopt the January 30, 2011 Agenda as amended. Seconded by Barbara Crow. Carried. Agenda Amendments: 5.1 Message from Bishop, 5.2 Message from Rector 11.1 Emergency Contact Sheets 3. Adoption of the Minutes of January 31, 2010 MOTION: Therasa Hunt moved that the Minutes of January 31, 2010 be adopted as circulated. Seconded by Bob Cobb. Carried. 4. Annual Reports for the Year ending December 31, 2010 MOTION: Alan Forrest moved that the Reports for the Year 2010 be adopted as circulated. Seconded by John Haitsma. Carried. 5. Message from: 6. Budget 5.1 The Bishop: The Right Reverend Donald Phillips, letter read and made available for circulation. 5.2 The Rector: The Rev. Preston Parsons’ message as attached. Comments from the floor: David Newman expressed his thanks to Preston and welcomes his questioning spirit, and his inclusiveness. He feels moved by Preston’s words and transparency. He is encouraged and thanks Preston for his courage, wisdom and understanding. MOTION: Mary Valentine moved that the 2011 Budget be accepted as presented. Seconded by Therasa Hunt. Carried. 7. Financial Review MOTION: Barbara Crow moved that the 2010 Financials be accepted as reviewed. Seconded by John Haitsma. Carried. 8. Appointments Rector’s Warden: Ray Nembhard has accepted the appointment as Rector’s Warden Deputy Rector’s Warden: Heather Birtles has accepted the appointment as Deputy Rector’s Warden 9. Elections: Nominations Report Distributed as below. The Rev. Preston Parsons, called for nominations from the floor 3 times for each position. i. People’s Warden & Deputy People’s Warden People’s Warden: Brian Crow Deputy People’s Warden: vacant 3
The People’s Warden was unanimously accepted by acclamation. ii. Synod Delegates as proposed by the Nominating Committee (we are allowed 3 Synod Delegates) 1. Bill Regehr 2. Tannis Webster 3. Pam Parisian This close votes tells us that this parish has confidence in each of these perspective delegates. The vote was only separated by 5 votes between the first spot and the alternate. Nominations from the floor: Dr. Jane Barter Moulaison nominates Dr. Lissa Wray Beal. Lissa Wray Beal accepts the nomination. Barbara Crow nominates Margaret Jones. Margaret Jones declines the nomination. A vote will be taken to choose the 3 Delegates. MOTION: Therasa Hunt moved that Judy Asker fill the role of scrutineer. Seconded by Jean Crowe . Carried. Vote results for Synod Delegates: 1. Dr. Lissa Wray Beal 2. Bill Regehr 3. Tannis Webster Pam Parisian, first alternate iii. Vestry Members, with the exception of Josie Cantafio who has withdrawn her name, Hope Bettess Qaiser Bhatti Alan Forrest Doreen Giesbrecht Therasa Hunt Pam Parisian Winston Peddle Karen Stuart Nominations from the floor: Margaret Jones nominates Aaron Peterson. Aaron accepts the nomination. The entire slate of Vestry members, with the addition of Aaron Peterson, was unanimously accepted by acclamation. Installation Date for Vestry: February 6, 2011 Preston invited to the front of the room, and addressed, all Vestry Members, the Canonical Committee, and the congregation. 10. Appreciation: The floor was opened for words of encouragement and appreciation. Special Plaque Dedication: Brian Crow unveiled a plaque commemorating all renovation projects at St. Mary Magdalene since 2005. Ministries and individuals thanked and mentioned: Ray Nembhard, The Corporation, Alan Forrest, Margaret Jones, Doreen Giesbrecht-Special thanks to Doreen for 26 years of service as Envelope secretary, The Bettess Family, Preston, Pam Parisian, Jane Barter Moulaison and all those working with children and youth, Nancy Aasland, all those that made special donations of time, money and support to all of our renovations, Barbara Crow, all those who produced reports for the AGM, Judy Asker, Dayle Michaud, all Lay Readers. Thank you to each of you that do so much for our parish community! 11. Other Business 11.1 Emergency Contact Sheets: Please fill out the gold emergency contact forms and place them in the office for filling. 12. Adjournment and Closing Prayer MOTION: Alan Forrest motioned to adjourn the Annual General Meeting. Seconded by Margaret Jones. Carried.
