Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts
128 N. Broad Street
Philadelphia, PA 19102
For the eleventh consecutive year, on November 14, PAFA will
host the Bacchanal! Wine Gala and Auction, featuring internationally
distinguished winemakers and celebrity chefs. This year,
Bacchanal! will celebrate the food and wine of Chile.
Since 1999, Bacchanal! has been consistently recognized as
a premier wine and auction event in the Philadelphia region and
has garnered a national reputation. To date, the event has raised
more than $2.4 million to help fund PAFA’s student scholarships
and education programs and this vibrant support has
been invested in the Philadelphia community to help promote art
education.
Bacchanal! 2009 will include wine tastings, silent and live
auctions of unique items and travel destinations, a gourmet dinner
highlighting Chilean culinary delicacies, and dancing. Hugh
Hildesley of Sotheby’s in Manhattan will be the auctioneer for the
evening. During Bacchanal! 2009, PAFA’s prestigious Thomas
Jefferson Award will be conveyed to honor two of Chile’s leading
wine producers: Aurelio Montes, Proprietor of Viña Montes
and Enrique Tirado, Chief Winemaker of Don Melchor, Concha Y
Toro.
Throughout the week preceding Bacchanal!, a series of exclusive
gourmet winemaker dinners will take place in private homes,
each pairing a distinguished Chilean winemaker with a local
celebrity chef.
In addition, plans are underway for Bacchanal! 2009 to be
preceded by an international symposium, comprised of panelists
that will discuss the vibrant trade and economic and investment
opportunities that exist between Chile and the United States.
The symposium will present current Chile and U.S. collaborations
including those in the fields of agriculture, natural resources and
energy, legal and financial services, cross border and tax policies,
migration, and additional industries and markets. This unique
event will bring together key stakeholders to discuss contemporary
and prospective U.S. and Chilean opportunities and innovations,
with representatives from the business and academic
communities, and policymakers.
Bacchanal! is PAFA’s flagship wine affair, raising up to
$500,000 annually. PAFA is authorized to host Bacchanal! by the
Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board and is generously supported
by The Haverford Trust Company, this year’s presenting sponsor.
Bacchanal! is co-chaired by Rosemary and Gerald Barth.
