A New Season of PAFA After Dark
Whether you’re a convert to the new nighttime festivities
at PAFA or still sitting at home on Thursday nights
wondering what all the fuss is about, it turns out you’re
in luck. PAFA After Dark is back for its second season
of surprising nights in the galleries with an eclectic mix
of music, performances, cocktails, friends and of course
– art. We’ll explore the lure of the local at October 27th’s
kickoff event – Home Grown – with local craft brews,
performances by artists from the HERE exhibition, and
demonstrations by local green thumbs who keep our city
beautiful. On December 15th, we’ll bring you Collision
Course, a night of surprising overlaps where the permanent
collection gets reinterpreted by local artist Hennessey
Youngman, scavenger hunts turn up all sorts of
artistic personality clashes, and young students fill the old
building with artwork that’s all for sale.

be allergic to.
It’s free for members. Where else can you hear a
concert or see a performance for absolutely no dollars?

PAFA After Dark takes place on select Thursdays from
6 – 9 p.m. Tickets are free to members but reservations
are required. (We are happy to note that we have been
known to sell out this event, so reserve early!)

This course will introduce students to an objective method for
appreciating art using the methods developed by John Dewey,
Dr. Albert C. Barnes and Violette de Mazia.
PAFA Welcomes over
30 new docents!

Ever wonder who gives all the tours to adult groups and
our nearly 10,000 school children? It’s a docent, and after
a year of training that included an American art history
lecture series, paper assignments, presentations in the
galleries, and multiple other curatorial walkthroughs and
educational workshops, 37 new docents will graduate in
September. The addition of this dedicated group of volunteers
will double our docent program to over 70 active
docents. This is the first class in five years and many were
eager to join last summer. Although they’ve spent a great
deal of time in our galleries and doing research on their
own, their education does not end with graduation. All of
PAFA’s volunteer guides have an exceptionally big task
ahead of them this year, as they prepare to tour two major
exhibitions, starting with HERE in the fall and culminating
with Henry Ossawa Tanner: Modern Spirit in the spring.
Join us in congratulating them on all their hard work and
consider stopping by for one of their regularly scheduled
tours.
